I'm so excited I have to share!

I just got a note from my wedding photographer. He submitted one of the photographs from my wedding and won some awards:
"Angels in Our Midst" won several state and one Kodak Gallery Award in the wedding category last week at Maryland's annual convention.

That would be a picture of my wife. I'm so proud I can burst.

The credit goes to my wedding photographer, not me. I'm a long way from quitting my day job. Although I'm excited to say that on Sunday I'm going to have my first client meeting. Hopefully they'll book - I really need to beef up my portfolio (http://www.door51.com).

Well, to be honest the "subject" of the photo made his job rather easy...

That's funny - it's exactly what I told him, too.

The cool part is that I know exactly how he created that image.

Do you use flickr or any of the other photo hosting sites?

What's your camera setup?

Very impressive portraits. I can't usually get the hang of it, they end up looking odd unless the subject has no idea I'm taking a picture of them.

I can't seem to explain myself correctly today. I did not take that picture. It was taken by James Roy, who photographed my wedding. As in "the day when I got married to the beautiful subject in that photo, he was my photographer". :0)

He underexposed the room and used the help of my brother-in-law to shine a video light on her. Not sure which camera he was using - he shot film.

What for? To showcase my stuff? In that case, you have to options:
My "official" site: www.door51.com and
My Blog: www.door51.com/blog where I post the latest stuff.

If I misunderstood your question, please let me know.

How was the mural lit?

Amazing picture. Nice choice with the photographer. The subject matter definitely didn't hurt, either.

Thanks. :D
As far as the mural, I don't really remember how it was lit. I'm thinking there were small spotlights built into the inner walls... but I'm not sure.

Excuse me, I didn't explain that I had looked through your website, and wanted to know if there was more somewhere. :)

The way they would do that in "hard construction" is with a small reveal around the edges of the mural where it meets to adjoining alcove, and then you can tuck strip lighting into the reveal, like neon or LED, or fluorescents in the old days. That would of course require a larger and deeper reveal. Typically you'll have some space in that alcove to run your conduit and transformers behind the finished wall surface and then punch through to feed the lighting in the reveal. That was the work doesn't have to be too pretty because no one will be able to see it anyway.

In this scenario the mural looks like it might be translucent, and in that case, all bets are off. Frankly, the sepia tones disguise the construction so all I can do is speculate.

Nice shot by the way (by your photographer - I got the memo!). The Mrs. looks amazing. What mural?

I'm sorry I misunderstood what you were asking. I'll shoot you a PM and give you a few more links to take a look at.

Thank you everyone for you comments about the Mrs. I always pass them along and it makes her smile.
