View Full Version : Almost cut in front of today.

Picture a 2 lane each direction divided road (highway) with a stoplight. Speed limit 55mph. At the light, a car coming from the other direction starts to make a left turn, crossing over my two lanes. Thank God above they decided not to do it - or I would have been a statistic.

In traffic, I was in the left lane following another car 5-6 carlengths behind. The car in front of me decides to make a left turn at that same light, and pulls into the left turn only lane at the light and starts to slow down...

Basically what that move did was they became a visual block between me and the car that almost pulled out in front of me. I don't think they saw me until the very last minute. I have to admit (obvously) that I didn't anticipate what was happening.

Just something to look out for.

Funny, in a non-humorous sort of way, I was out today FOR THE FIRST TIME on my 2006 and the fog started to get really bad. Saw a white van at the last second stop instead of pulling out in front of me from a right side street. I had the headlight on bright and wear bright gear so he undoubtedly saw me before I saw him. But I realized I was riding with tunnel vision, I need to redevelop the sweep and scan for hostile objects (meaning all cars, animals, etc) mentality I used to have. BOY WAS IT GREAT BEING OUT ON A BIKE AGAIN!!!! We have some more snow forecast and it's really supposed to rain tomorrow but at least I got a little time in. BE CAREFUL OUT THERE!

Don't forget your "6" in that scan...

Try riding with a friend with no mirrors and no ability to maintain lane positioning

Yep, I've always had to know what is behind me and the only aspect of the 599 I'm not loving is the mirrors. I've read the 2007 street triple mirrors really help out, I need to further adjust the stocks for now. But I'm always looking for Joe Tailgater, they seem to be out there. I really like some of the rizoma sets but I don't think they see very well either.

Depends on your definition of “very well” but I like 'em. No more bobbing my head around to get my arms out of the view. Very adjustable and rock solid.
Nothing cheap about them :?

Thats why I have a Stebel Nautilus Compact air horn. At 140 dB's, I lay on that sucker every time I even suspect someone is not looking my way. It does get their attention FAST.

RND, if they were cheap I wouldn't like them, LOL. Do you have the Rizoma Dynamics. I think they match the best, probably going to go with silver. I'm gonna go broke in a hurry if I don't watch myself, but I really think the mirrors are a necessity while all the other mods are for looks.

The Rizoma Dynamics actually seem to work better than the stock mirrors.

2007 Speed Triple mirrows @ $132. pair. Work like a charm.

Just installed this horn last weekend and it's probably the louder than anything you'll find on any car. I cannot wait to use it on the road ... people will certainly hear me now! Thanks to Will for assistance with the wiring!

I'm definitely not riding with you now! I don't want to be anywhere near that thing when you fire it off.

It's actually ~6.5BHP ... though in the oddest way possible. The 30A current the horn draws puts a load on the alternator, but the pressure of the air exiting the air horn more than makes up for the power draw:

power draw * (exit air pressure from horn - amp to hp conversion) = power gained

30A * (.4551 BHP/A - .236 BHP/A) = 6.573 BHP*

*equation 0% accurate

JBarx, I understand your concern ... though I ask that you reserve judgment till you can hear it in person. Why don't we see if you can hear it from a full city block away first?

How about you we start out at 1500 miles then work closer, I'll PM you when I hear it... Probably some where around mid Georgia

Oh and the topic...

6. In the multiple vehicle accidents, the driver of the other vehicle violated the motorcycle right-of-way and caused the accident in two-thirds of those accidents.

7. The failure of motorists to detect and recognize motorcycles in traffic is the predominating cause of motorcycle accidents. The driver of the other vehicle involved in collision with the motorcycle did not see the motorcycle before the collision, or did not see the motorcycle until too late to avoid the collision.

8. Deliberate hostile action by a motorist against a motorcycle rider is a rare accident cause. The most frequent accident configuration is the motorcycle proceeding straight then the automobile makes a left turn in front of the oncoming motorcycle.

9. Intersections are the most likely place for the motorcycle accident, with the other vehicle violating the motorcycle right-of-way, and often violating traffic controls.

11. Weather is not a factor in 98% of motorcycle accidents.

12. Most motorcycle accidents involve a short trip associated with shopping, errands, friends, entertainment or recreation, and the accident is likely to happen in a very short time close to the trip origin.
