View Full Version : Cars Turning Left - How to Proceed

Just a thought as you are approaching an intersection with a car making the dreaded left in front of you.

I usually focus on the front wheels as most of the windows are tinted here in the desert, and I sometimes I don't believe they see me even if they do, after some eye contact. What I noticed is that they usually are looking for when the light will turn to yellow so they can make the turn.

What I did today was glance up and make sure the light was not turning yellow just as an extra edge because I figure they would be more primed to go on a yellow.

Any thoughts on taking your eyes off the front wheels for a second?

When that light is yellow, you know they're itching to turn.

1.Try to be seen. When I approach a motorist stopping for a left turn, I move the bike left and right to create a motion that might be seen (momentary hitting him with the headlight). I hate to find myself behind a car and have the possibility that the guy will make an immediate left as the car passes.
2. Always watch everything and learn to minimize tunnel vision.
3. I try to ride in an aggressive manner so that the other driver can't hit me even as if was trying to.

Yeah, I do a little swerve from side to side, also I move to the right of the lane, plus I suck a whole bunch of air to puff my chest up ,and sit up straight & high to appear larger.

It seems to work for my dog, when he wants to intimidate the other ones.

...and you can always wait for the next light/arrow cycle. No fun I know.

I keep my rides to little or no traffic signals. :P
