Hi all,

I use to have a 2004 599 and sold it a couple of years ago. I loved that bike and now I'm in the market to get another one. I'm specifically looking for a 2006 599 located in California. I need the CA emissions, so it would have to be a CA bike.

Thanks for any help,

Joel :D

Howdy, Cyclerider.

There's a dealership in Ontario (California) that was selling a NEW 2006 they still had for $5499, if that's in your range. I think it's "Mountain Motorsports" possibly. $5499 is about as low as I have seen a new one, and a stellar deal considering the factory warranty is still valid.

Good luck.

I got a hold of the Mountain Motorsports dealership in Ontario. Yes, they do have a 2006 599 for 5499.99, but their out the door price with delivery fee, set up fee, dealer prep fee, fee, fee and more fees is actually about 7,150.00. I may have to go this route, but they have almost another 1,000 in fluff fees (not DMV or taxes) and that kinda turns me off.

$1600 in fees? Even with taxes, that's absolutely ridiculous. If their fees are normally that high, then I don't see how they're in business. My bike was marked $1300 higher than that in fees and only came out about $100 higher after all fees and taxes.

Man, that sucks. I wish I had saved the e-mail where they told me $5499 included assembly fees and whatnot. I was dealing with a guy there, but in the end, even $5499 plus the drive to go and get it was more than I wanted to spend.

I've seen several in cycletrader as well, but I figure that's an obvious starting point. Good luck.

Do you remember the name of the guy you talked to? I don't want to pay more than I have to, so maybe I should try and deal them down. It's just seems difficult when there aren't many new 2006s around.

Unfortunately, I don't remember the guy's name. I went to their website at some point, and they actually had the new 599 advertised for $4899. When I asked them what the deal with that was, they said "It's $5499 with fees." To me, that was the difference between buying it and not buying it, so I let it go and purged my memory of most everything regarding that shop.

Trust me, I've been looking for months, and there really are quite a few new 599s still around - maybe just none near you.

Thanks for your help! Even what you have told me is a big help. If they were offering it to you for the 5499 including set up fees (not dmv and tax I assume) they were trying to rip me off! I'll fire them a counter offer back and see what happens.

I'm Still looking! By way of follow up, Mountain Motorsports says they charge a $1,000 for set up, shipping and prep. WOW! Way more than my local dealer.

Now I'm sure most all of the 599's you'll find here in CA are going to be CA models, but why do you need it to be one? The DMV doesn't smog check motorcycles here.

A year and a half ago I brought my 49-state model Honda Shadow over from AZ and had zero issues getting it registered in CA.

Oh yeah and btw, welcome to the forum!

Wow, you were lucky! I've had a lot of trouble bring out of state bikes into California. In one case a 2004 Suzuki SV1000. The DMV would not let me register it. Another case was my old 2004 honda 599 I bought in 2005. It actually was originally a California registered bike but was sold to a guy in Reno, NV. I confirmed that it was a CA bike when I bought it. The DMV gave me all kinds of grief. I had to do a VIN verification with the Highway Patrol and jump through some other hoops. It is my understanding that if a bike in not a CA bike and has less than 7,500 miles it cannot be be registered in CA. It just seems a lot easier to get a CA registered bike! By the way, I'm still looking for an 06!
