Did you get the barend type or the standard type?

Hardest part about the standard type is realizing one of the nuts is reverse threaded. (righty tighty doesn't always work!)

Hit it with some break away or WD40 before your start.

And be careful not to cross thread the new mirrors. The alloy thread on the bar mounts is very soft. Put the new mirror in the hole and turn it to the left like you are unscrewing it, when you feel it drop down a thread then turn it to the right to tighten it.

Thanks Steve, I have a pair of standards as well so I'm hoping it's not too difficult.

Some questions

1) do you use locktite to for standard mirror installation.

2) do both OEM mirrors loosen by turning them to the left

3) which bolt is reverse threaded, the bolt that attached the base to the handlebar or the bolt that tightens the mirror to the base?

Sorry, I haven't done this stuff in awhile and was never very good at it. A successful install may get some good pics uploaded, LOL.

Are these mirrors tinted, or is there a film over the glass to be removed?

Tinted blue. Did you get them installed? I'm going to try on Monday, I hope I don't mess it up!

My husband installed them this morning. I haven't ridden with them yet. Seems to me they aren't as adjustable as the stock mirrors were.

1) They didn't use loctite from the factory so I didn't use it either. I don't see any problem using it, just don't use the strong kind.

2/3) I wish I knew. I spent a lot of time trying to turn the bolt the wrong way, that's all I remembered. Now you get to do the same!

I tried two different styles of mirrors but went back to stock. Don't sell the old ones.

Yeah, they don't have the same easy pivot adjustability but once you get them in place you are done. (I put mine just slightly ahead of being inline with the bar) The mirror is ball mounted and can be moved anywhere you like, it's kinda stiff so don't worry about using some muscle to move them.

And lastly, yes they have a very light blue tint, I like it - now that my eye is used to them I can find the mirror very easy and it doesn't seem like car's headlights blind me...

I feel like a real man-boy right now, mirrors were easy as cake to install. Couldn't ride because my battery is dead but I can sit on the bike and clearly see my blind spots and all the way back, a 100% improvement over stock and look slick too. Can't wait to ride with them.

While it's fresh in your mind, why don't you list which part turns which way for the record.

Both of the stock mirrors turned left to loosen them. On the hardware I got, everything was normally threaded. I think they may have changed their connector recently and they do install some hardware for different models that I didn't use. I would check the mirrors once in awhile as I didn't want to use any loctite as you can adjust the angle and all by slightly loosening and then tightening the allen bolts. I'd hate to lose a mirror while riding.

it's been awhile since i've been to the forum, lots of activity these days.

Thanks steve, for the video on oil changing, i used it for my winterizing.

So two projects I have are switching out the tail lights (ANYTHING smaller) and changing out the stock mirrors. I like the look of these Rizoma Dynamics - do you guys have anything else that i can look at?

Wow they sure look like they'll be lower than the stock. How do you like them?

I've been very happy this past year with my Rizoma Dynamics. They're lots lower. I can see fine - not fuzzy. No problems here except they really make my stock levers look antiquated.

You may want to check out the Aprilla Mirrors from this thread:

http://www.honda599.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4375&highlight=aprilla+mirrors

They were the first modification I made to my 599.

They are a vast improvement over the stock mirrors. They look much better and actually work. I have had zero vibration issues out of these mirrors. When I first got my bike (which hasn't been that long ago) I was truly shocked and somewhat scared by how little I could see out of the stock mirrors.

The above link also details how to buy them (part nos., etc.) from www.af1racing.com, which is where I got mine and had a great buying experience.

Post what you end up getting and how you like them.
