View Full Version : Helmets again...but different?
ronny599 03-07-2008, 10:23 PM Does anyone have any info on the following helmets? I found the Simpson Superbandit and Roof Boxer V to be very unique looking. I am curious about them, but since they are rare at best...I thought I'd toss this out there to gain as much info possible before tossin cash. If you haven't tried either, please comment on style.

DarkTint 03-07-2008, 11:03 PM Roof Boxer V: Just plain weird. Probably the biggest problem with a helmet like this is being able to try one on. Because it looks strange, it might fit strange too, and it's pretty much a guarantee that your local dealer isn't going to have one. Ordering one and being confident that it will fit properly could be a guessing game. Also, no vents.
Simpson Superbandit: This is a helmet for auto racing, not motorcycles. Some might say a helmet is a helmet, but I would stick with a helmet designed to do what I plan to use it for.
ronny599 03-07-2008, 11:07 PM Another unique helmet... add some if ya got em!
I struggled through putting this photo on myself (with the help of my retarded cousin) this one is his favorite... he wants one for the short-bus. j/k(don't get mad) He is really nice, even he dosen't mind

JHenley17 03-07-2008, 11:27 PM Even though Maverick was too cool for a helmet, I'd probably go with one of those if I were a fighter or helicopter pilot. The black one is definitely an auto racing helmet.

JasonC 03-08-2008, 09:59 AM Style wise, I think it would be cool to wear an auto helmet on a bike, just to be different. I know there are a few differences, though. I noticed that the Superbandit meets SNELL M & SA standards, depending on what liner you order. From the SNELL web page:
The SA standard was designed for competitive auto racing while M standard was for motorcycling and other motorsports. The K standard was released to accommodate helmets used in karting. There are three major differences between them:
1 The SA standard requires flammability test while the M and K standards do not.
2 The SA and K standards allow for a narrower visual field than M standard (Some SA and K certified helmets may not be street legal).
3 The SA and K standards include a rollbar multi impact test while M standard does not.
From this, it looks like the Superbandit would be a unique and safe option. My only concern would be, although it says windtunnel tested etc., that it would be noisy in the wind (doesn't look nearly as sleek as a typical MC helmet), and the visor doesn't look like it seals very well eather. It really doesn't look like it would stop any rain. Perhaps other helmets better suited for open cockpit, all weather use.
As far as the Roof goes, you're on your own
JHenley17 03-08-2008, 04:50 PM I could be wrong, but it looks like your range of movement might be slightly limited by the automotive helmet, along with the concerns about wind and the visor...

rndthought 03-10-2008, 10:02 AM I'd stay with motorcycle specific helmets, Simpson is more of a car thing and don't think they spend a lot of time dealing with external airflow.
But as always, I may be wrong.
Sundog 03-10-2008, 06:37 PM I found a Caberg solo 104 at the honda dealership. It has a figher pilot style flip down visor, pretty good fit and finish, and only $200. I would have bought one on the spot, except they only had a large, and it was a bit too big. I might order a medium online here (https://www.motoliberty.com/prod_detail.asp?Prod_ID=362), but I want to check to see if anyone has any input first.
