Today I went out to Livermore, CA to ride along Mines Road with some people from the South Bay Riders forum. It was going well, if a bit challenging for me, until we came upon a sizable amount of traffic. This traffic was created by a big ol' pickup hauling an equally large trailer.
Our group was making our way around the trailer when we could, but I guess the cage driver didn't enjoy getting passed. The guy right in front of me was making his move to pass when all of a sudden, the trailer did the "get off my ass" maneuver (slamming on the brakes). The rider was accelerating right at that moment but wasn't going to clear the trailer since it had stopped going forward, and instead, he grabbed a handful of front brake and endo'd. Scary shit.
It was a 10mph sort of accident. One where your pride and your bike are hurt more than you. That really shook me up, and soon after, I decided my day was done. I couldn't keep my head on the road, and I was only thinking about "what if that was me?"
Moral of the story... don't be unlucky.
