Howdy,

I'm looking at buying a 919. There are more than a few leftover 06s and 07s sitting at area dealers, and some are already willing to sell one to me for invoice ($7,200).

I have a couple questions though. First, what kind of price do you think I can get for a leftover 919 these days? I've read abut some people that got 919s in 2007 for $8,000 OTD, so I figure they were already selling at invoice last year, and now they are just aging and costing dealers money... I'm curious how low people think I can go. I've seen a couple go new for $6,000....

Second, given that some of these bikes have been sitting for two years, what kind of TLC will need to go ino the bike before I can ride it? I'd guess the tires are good if they're not dry rotting, but what if there's old gas? I'd probably change the motor oil, but will the fork oil be good?

Third, I'm not wild about the red paint, are the painted body parts interchangeable between all 599s and 919s since 2002? Also, I've seen some 2004 919s selling for around $4,000 with mods. Should I consider used over new, or just go new since they are selling so low?

Also, I've never bought from a dealer before - anything specific I should ask for, especially if I pay invoice (gear, service, etc)?

Thanks for all the info!

Howdy

I paied $8,500 OTD for a new bike in 06. So $8,000 sounds reasonable.

Bike should be fine, even though it's older. They go through a lot of prep work before they hand it over so if they did their job right there shouldn't be any problems. The fork oil should be fine too. Just ride the bike for 600 miles then change the oil and inspect tighten a few bolts.

Body parts are not interchangeable. Everything is similar between the bikes but almost nothing is the same. Take a look at the red in person and I think you'll love it. If not you can look for an 05' in gloss black.

Expect a lot of BS when buying from a dealer. They will give you a price, walk back and make you sit then come back and give you a new price. Be willing to walk away and remember you have the check book so you have the power.

Dealling locally can pay off with personable service.
Whenver I move to a new town, I like to immediately start a relationship with a liquor store and the local Honda shop.

Back when I had my 919 I found www.project919.com to be an excellent resource. I had my 919 dialed in with Sato exhausts, Power commander with a custom map made by one of the members and lots of other trick stuff. I love our site and we have a great group of people here, but the other site is more oriented to the 919.

Thanks for the tips and the link to the 919 site - here I thought 919s just didn't have much love...

Saki, did you find your 919 yet?

I was surfing last weekend and found that Southern Honda (Chattanooga) has a 919 offered for $65xx. Might be worth the road trip....

I'd stay away from the PC3. It's cheap Chinese electronics that are known to fail. It won't give you anymore power anyway.

Saki......

Found a 919 for sale.

2006 Honda 919
Candy Red • 4306 miles
stock number 400668
$6795

Honda's muscular 919cc liquid cooled 4 cylinder open class engine, inspired by the legendary CBR900RR, featuring impressive torque and surprising top end hp in a feathery 428lb package with an upright seating position perfect for commuting or sport riding in comfort. Low maintenance (16,000 mile valve adj intervals, auto cam chain tensioner, hinged gas tank), fuel injected, 5 gallon tank, and a 6 speed 'box makes it fun and easy to own. Of course you get big 43mm forks, giant discs all around, and a frame to handle it all. It's a nice package priced right.

The dealer is in Columbia, Maryland. Don't know what the distance would be.

ZOMG, sooo, thanks to the economic downturn, and somehow still maintaining a job, I may be joining the 919 ranks here in the next month. Currently NEW 919 being sold here locally for the same posted price i got my used 599[had 2k miles on it] from the same dealership. Seeing that i got the 599 down from almost $7k to $6k flat including taxes/registration/yada i plan on doing the same. And even if i dont, its still a whole lot better than the original pricetag that it started at [nearly 9k].

I've been in contact with this sales rep for what it feels like forever now[he did sell me the 599 last january], and the 919 has been sitting there for quite some time. I wont be able to pick it up till April at the earliest, but do I wait a month and see if i can get desperation and a better price outta him OR just buy it nowish and let them hold onto it until then?

Dealer even suggest i get a test-ride outta it next week. Any suggestions?

I live in Los Angeles, California. A local dealer, Temple City PowerSports, advertised a new 2007 red 919 for $6,499. When I asked if that was the OTD price, I was quoted an OTD price of $8,199.75. Doesn't seem to want to go any lower. My two thoughts are:

(1) If the base price is $6,499, how in the world did they get to $8,199.75? Even with a 9% sales tax and a few hundred in doc fees, I don't see how they went from $6,499 to over eight thousand dollars. Especially when I was quoted an OTD price of around $8,400 hen the bike was new in 2007.

(2) In light of the prices I've read on this thread, do you guys think I'm being unreasonable in thinking that $8,199.75 is over the top? Any of you guys know what a fair OTD price for this 2007 bike should be? I'm thinking the $6,499 that was originally advertised.

Thanks.

I'm not one of these people that claims to have bought my bike for thousands less; and you just have to know how to deal - but the OTD price on that bike is way too high. they are hurting...still trying to unload a bike that's nearly three model years old...bs. keep looking and be patient. the right deal will come along.

member 9nineteen is selling his Bike of the Year award-winning 919 in SoCal. I don't know if it's been still available, but you should buy it if it is. Fly to SoCal and ride the bike home. It's badass:

I just became a 919 owner (Candy Apple Red---not my fav but its growing on me).

I shopped for about two months (July/Aug 2009) for 919s in TEXAS---several dealerships had new 2007's or a few barely used with less than 5K on them, most priced from $5800 to about $6700. I kept missing out (would call and it would be sold) and then I got lucky---found a 2007 with 1200 miles with racing exhausts already added. Bike looked like showroom quality and cost less than $5800 and that was with TTL included.
