View Full Version : Sparx Special Hornet Edition Helmet
Thought it was worth adding this bit of info:
Sparx designed a Hornet Special Edition helmet and it's out for sale! I'm currently in the middle of negotiations with them to see if I can get group discounts or some sponsored rides.
I'm open to your ideas, as well. What would you like to see happen?

Here's WebBikeWorld's review: http://www.webbikeworld.com/r2/motorcycle-helmet/sparx/s-07/
Transient 03-27-2008, 11:55 AM I was so close to picking this up before I went to my local store and started trying on helmets for the first time in two years. Absolutely nothing feels like an Arai. Shoei and Shark are similar to one another, but Arai's on a totally different level.
Looks like an outstanding alternative to a Scorpion, HJC or similar helmet, though!
jfeagin 03-27-2008, 08:43 PM That's pretty cool. I wonder if they would do a deal on getting the hornet out as a decal.
Still, I gotta give it up for RND's new medieval-themed helmet. I wonder if it's DOT certified... :D

Like the one ThickMick has? I might spend $140 for one... A black one that is 8) .
robotribe 03-31-2008, 04:40 PM Good helmets, especially for the price. I have a retro model. The only thing it fails in compared to my Scorpion EXO-700 is the anti-fog feature. That's a minor thing for me in SoCal, and overall it feels like more helmet than what I paid for it ($130).
Mitch 03-31-2008, 10:36 PM If there was a group discount, I would get it. If there were sponsored rides... well, where would they be?!
Hey, I tried.
"Unfortunately, in order for me to sponsor an event/ride I need to be present at the event or the event needs to be managed by either my distributor reps or one of my brand managers. I'm sorry but I don't have the capacity to manage sponsoring a online forum or a bike night right now, but I appreciate you reaching out to me. ~ Connie"
jfeagin 04-01-2008, 01:13 PM Thanks for trying. All you can do is ask. As we say in the library biz, there's no such thing as a stupid question... The rest is left as an exercise for the student.
patrickjs5 04-01-2008, 02:23 PM i read a few reviews for this helmet, and it seems like a bargain. "the top end of the low end," they call it. more features and higher quality for less price.
the SparX brand is actually owned by KBC, but has its own teams for design and production. which is interesting, since the SparX helmets have been getting better reviews than higher priced KBCs.
i just wish there was somewhere near me to try one on... i might have to order one and just risk it. there are some sweet graphics too, and they dont cost $100 more! i think im in love with this helmet.
i like this one. (http://www.motorhelmets.com/htm-helmets/sparx/pr-helmets-sparx-street-2008-s-07-retro-classic.htm)
JHenley17 04-01-2008, 03:45 PM I'm also interested in trying one. I went from a KBC to a Scorpion because I liked the Scorpion much better, despite the lower price, but this is apparently even better than KBC...
ThickMick 04-01-2008, 10:18 PM To give an idea on sizing, I wear a medium SparX S-07 but a friends Scorpion EXO-400 is a large and feels just as snug if not a little bit more so. This may be in my head shape though.. who knows.
I felt as though the 400 was an upgrade from my own helmet. I love the graphics on the SparX but it just feels "cheap" to me...
Give me a few hours and i'll try to upload some more pictures. I would really recommend you guys interested in purchasing one try it on first. It seems better on paper than it does while riding...
Me?.. I'm going this week to look at new helmets.. The peace of mind seems worth the extra money..

Peace of mind to what end? Are you concerned about protection or durability of the moving parts?
I wouldn't sweat protection. The ECE standard is the one that I really like to see on a helmet - I prefer it to Snell. And I don't think that particular helmet has many moving parts from what I recall, just the visor and chin vents.

All blinged out it's only $139.99... you guys and your discounts :crazy

Yeah, it's a may be a good rule of thumb but I'd be careful as from brand to brand (and model to model) they can fit so different.

I have both a SparX Stryder S-07 (http://www.motorhelmets.com/htm-helmets/sparx/pr-helmets-sparx-street-2008-s-07-retro-stryder.htm)(all SparX ff helmets use the same shell as far as I can tell) and a Scorpion EXO-700—both of them are size large. They both fit well, and the only difference I notice is the that the SparX opening (the one you stick your head through) is slightly narrower so getting it on feels a little tighter. But once it's completely on, it feels the same to me as the Scorpion does.
As already stated, for the price I feel like I got a higher quality helmet than what I paid for it ($130) especially when compared to other helmets in that price range. It's pretty light too. The ONLY complaint I have is the visor which flexes when you open and close it. Sometimes tabbed side is more "closed" because of it, but my simple remedy as been to just use the the top edge of the visor towards the middle when closing. No big.
