So I'm looking at leather suits while thinking about a track day. The more I look at size charts, the less price is an object. Not that I can get anywhere near a custom fitted job.
Anybody have a solution for those of us who aren't exactly in top racing shape? I'd like to be able to breath and not have to buy a suit that's taller than I am. From what I can tell, it doesn't take but a few extra pounds to get way outside the range of sizes most companies offer.
And before anyone mentions it, yes, I am working on losing my spare tire.

I do not, yet have leathers, but for the "not in race shape" such as you and I, I hear buying a two piece set up is the way to go. you can get pants that work and a jacket that works. just be sure to get the kind that zip together and, not just that one little spot over your tail bone (you are talking about for the track yes?).

If you are talking about leathers for track... MOST tracks allow you to use two pice types as long as they have the zipper to attach them in the back.

This may be the best avenue if you don't fit in the "I'm a skinny short European racer" mold...

Also, I'd not go by the size charts... find a place where you can go try some on. Especially for the one piece, they fit way different. MFG to MFG also vary so if you are gonna mail order, try to see the fit of something they make even if it isn't the same exact one you'll be ordering.

I hate to beat this dead horse, but I have a motoport stretch kevlar Riva jacket that zips to a pair of Ultra II stretch kevlar pants that are race track certified. You take custom measurements and send them to motoport and they essentially make you a custom suit. I think the suit looks OK, certainly not as cool as racing leathers but I'm in and out of it in like 15 seconds flat. I'm really happy with it, now I just need to get around to doing a track day!

I'd check with the organizers... most of the rules say one-piece leather suit required or two-piece with full-circumference zipper... key word being leather.

Yes, I'm thinking track day. In fact, I signed up with NESBA for one of their intro slots at Summit Point. They let you attend the basic rider instruction session plus two riding sessions for free. Then, if you want to stay the whole day, you have to join up and pay the full day fee.

NESBA does say that a two-piece suit is acceptable so long as the zipper goes all the way around. Don't know if they'd accept the Motoport suit, since it isn't leather, but I may ask. As it stands now, I'm a difficult size for a one-piece and the custom stuff gets a tad expensive...

Anyway, rentals are available and I'm thinking I might just take my chances with one of the larger sizes if I can try something on locally to know where I fall in the range.

Thanks for the help, guys! :D

Talk to your local bike shop.
The guy here says he has a really good repore with Joe Rocket branded stuff.
He said when I'm ready for leathers to come in and we'll make our best guess on size and if it's not right they'll exchange it for free.

Edit......yet another reason to support your local retailer.

Yeah, I plan to drop by my dealer soon. Their selection of track-related stuff is small, but it covers pretty much everything. They even have cans of race fuel sitting by the sales counter! :)
