I was in the market for a bike this year. Found one at a dealership, yellow 2004 with 10,000 miles. $5300. I never seen any bikes like this, liked the style and color. Went online and searched and found this website. Found out that seemed a bit high price. So I searched some more and found a deal on craigslist! Bought a 2004 Asphalt with 600 miles, for only $4000!! 8) Older guy bought it after it was on showroom floor for 2 years, and he put the 600 miles on it over the next 2 years! Looks Great! I pulled up started it and looked it over and loaded it in my truck! Hauled it home and took it for a test ride, first time ever I rode this kind. Man, I love how this bike handles, corners great and very responsive. I took a MSF course last week also, so I have a license and learned some more.
I had a yamaha virago about 10 years ago, so it's been a while!

....Also thanks to this site, I purchased a Sparx Hornet helmet, found some great deals from newenough.com and ordered some sliders. Now I need to get a windscreen, any links??
I ordered the GX sport series jacket, and it arrived yesterday. Good quality and comfort.
I have to say that I'm happy with both the Free and FAST shipping from NewEnough and RevZilla.

Welcome back to the two-wheeled world! 8) (If it makes you feel any better, I was M.I.A. in cageland for more than 15 years...)

Anyway, it takes a passionate (and patient) person to join up these days with the site acting up. But if you think it's good now, wait 'til you see it when people aren't scared away by technical difficulties! :D

So, :welcome, and ride safe.

+1 Glad you found such an awesome deal, and glad you found us online. Check out the Hornet Aftermarket STICKY in the accessories section of the site for some mods, or do a search for windscreens using the search button in the menu bar and you'll find plenty.

Helmet is great! Sharp looking, and easy to remove face shield. Comes with tint and normal shield.
I'm looking for a good pair of riding pants for commute to work. About 30 miles by highway. Any suggestions? I have a black GX sport series jacket .

I decided to jump into this thread instead of posting my own, since I am apparently just a few miles down I-35 from IA Hornet.

Anyways, I just bought an '06 599 last weekend, and I love it! I haven't had much of a chance to ride it yet, but so far I love the way it handles, and it has plenty of power! And, has anyone mentioned it looks AWESOME! I definitely like having a more "exclusive" bike, my last bike a few years ago was a 95 Suzuki RF600R, and you sure didn't see many of those around either.

I'm glad I stumbled upon this site, it looks like a great place to get and share information. I will definitely check out the modifications board for some info on a windscreen and extended side mirrors (I can't see past my shoulders now) but it looks like my first add-on will be the frame sliders. Nothing would suck more than to have something as stupid as a parking lot drop put any scratches on this beautiful machine!

Looking forward to talking 599's with all of you!

Did you buy your bike from a dealer or private?

I bought mine from Storm Lake Honda, and unfortunately it is still in my parents' garage in Storm Lake because I had driven my car up there for the weekend. I will get it to DSM on Wednesday!

Struthers Bros. has a yellow '04 that I was pretty interested in, but I decided to pick up the '06 in Storm Lake, I like the glossy black a little better, and the instrument panel. Plus, I bought a bike from SL Honda before and they took good care of me so I figured I'd keep supporting them. Van Wall in Indianola has an '07 (new) 919 that I looked at briefly, but decided the 599 was the way to go for me.

Yea.. that yellow one at struthers got me started on the 599!! I never heard or seen them before! I was serious about getting it and I went online and found a better deal!
Garvis is having a ride on sunday, I'm thinking about it!

I saw an ad in the paper for it, it's like a fundraiser, right? I thought it was Saturday but I could be wrong. If it's Saturday I can't make it, and even if it's Sunday I probably can't. It would be a possibility for me if it is in the afternoon.

Less than 24 hours until my 599 is parked securely in my garage!!! Or, securely between my legs as I might have to take it for a spin around town after the 100 mile drive home from the pick-up point. I can't wait to ride it to work on Thursday and Friday, but unfortunately I might not get much riding in this weekend. I have some friends coming to town for a bachelor party (not mine) so I probably won't be riding much until they leave on Sunday. There's a possibility I might be riding it to Omaha, NE (130 miles) and back on Sunday to visit a friend, so that would be a great opportunity to get out on a wide open I-80 (where the speed limit seems to be 80)!

Odd, y'all drive so slow up there... I-4 you'd get run over most times...
Welcome and take it easy... Bachelor party and new bike sounds like a volatile combo
No matter what any of them drunk friends says, remember YOU get to crash it first!
Keep ‘em off it.

Oh, and my condolences to your friend.
