Hello All, I'm a fairly new rider and am looking to purchase my first bike. A used 599 is at the top of my list. Is this too much bike for a beginning rider?

Touché.

At least he'll be adequately confused by the end!

I like this thread over at beginnerbikes.org explaining why 600cc sportbikes are not a very good beginning bike. I know there are different opinions about this subject on the board here, but I would personally say that the 599 is not a good first bike, but definately a wonderful 2nd one.

Then again, Beginnerbikers will only accept you if you start on a Ninja 250. Otherwise prepare to get bashed. They don't seem to realize there's always more than one path to motorcycling Nirvana.

Take those guys with a grain of salt. They mean well, but they're safety Nazi's. Even with something as fun as bikes, you can siphon every ounce of enjoyment out of the experience if you hear enough doom-and-gloom.

Of course, they aren't ALL like that, but that is definitely the culture there. After about 200 posts, I bailed and set up shop here, and never looked back.

I don't know about that. Based on our poll, 3 out of 4 people say that 599 is a good beginner bike. Not much to be confused about... especially if he loves the look.

So yeah, :welcome
