playhockeyeh 07-01-2008, 10:04 AM Hello everyone,
Found a 2006 in Santa Barbara, CA with only 1,900 miles on it. Talked my brother-in-law into driving me down there with his truck and transported it back home. Just sold my Yamaha FJR1300 and I think this bike will be much more fun for daily riding.

Congratulations! It looks spotless! How much did you pay for it?
And :welcome
playhockeyeh 07-01-2008, 10:24 AM It worked out perfectly since I sold my 2003 FJR for $5,800 and bought the 2006 599 for $5,800. I could have gotten a new 2008 SV650 for $6,200 OTD, but I just couldn't stand the look of it and the inline four is a much better engine than the V-twin. I couldn't be happier with my decision.

Grats on the purchase.
Transient 07-01-2008, 12:09 PM Welcome to the group!
My vote goes for fender elimination, mostly because it's the biggest bang for your buck in terms of appearance. You can chop the thing for free or buy one of several outstanding bits that really make that back side pop. POW!
dabinche 07-01-2008, 12:45 PM good to see another from the bayarea....we need to have a get together
playhockeyeh 07-01-2008, 12:50 PM Absolutely! I'd be interested in some local group rides.

Ordered a pair of Rizoma Dynamic mirrors and the mounting adapters from PJ's Parts yesterday. If it wasn't for this forum, I would not have known about Rizoma or Pazzo products. Makes me happy, and the wife upset! :D

You'll like 'em I think. Welcome!
playhockeyeh 07-14-2008, 12:26 PM I really like the look of my new Rizoma Dynamic mirrors. The view from the mirrors is much smaller than the stock mirrors, but the viewing angle is improved. I still look over my shoulder for the most part, but the mirrors are good to watch for out of control cagers while at a stop light.
I wish the mirrors gave me a better view while on the freeway. Turning your head to check another lane is kind of difficult when going 80 MPH. Maybe I'll have to try a Givi A305 windshield...

I feel the same way, but you should always look anyway even if you have all kinds of mirrors on your bike.
I sometimes tuck behind my Givi, and there's no way I can look behind me from that vantage, mirrors or not.
Hasn't someone invented a helmet with a rear-view mirror yet?
JHenley17 07-14-2008, 10:01 PM I never switch lanes without turning my head, unless I'm doing 110+, which isn't often. You do have blind spots, so it's best to make a habit of it. It might seem difficult at first, but you'll get used to it. I can turn all the way around doing 90 if I need to.
playhockeyeh 07-15-2008, 08:52 AM Thanks for the feedback from everyone. I try to look over my shoulder every time I change lanes, but sometimes it feels unsafe to do so. The area I live in is notorious for very strong afternoon winds and sometimes I feel like it's going to rip my head off when I present the side of my helmet to the wind. I guess it doesn't help that I have a big Charlie Brown head! The only helmet that fit me even remotely close was the Shoei products.
