I've been very interested in giving my 919 the simple bafflectomy procedure often seen on YouTube, and I am curious: would doing this cause a state inspection failure? I would think that all that is required by the state is for the exhaust to be of a limited volume, but removing the baffle in this case is not too big of a sound change, but more of a note change.

I live in North Carolina, if anyone has more specifics for us in particular. I appreciate the help!

It's a huge sound change! If you do have inspections you'll fail.

It's a lot of work and you'll be destroying pipes that cost more than any aftermarket. Best to save your stock pipes and just bite the bullet and buy aftermarket.

That way when you do need an inspection you can slap the stockers back on.

Alrighty! Thanks for the advice, I'll keep them on.

I'm going on a year long deployment this winter, and when I come back I'm going to do a total refurbishing. I hate to say it, but my poor 919 looks much older than a 2002. Does anyone have a link to some paint job ideas or any other really unique 919 fix-ups?

I have a Baffectomy on my 919, I've riden in NC several times and never had anyone say anything to me. It is louder, but not so much that it would realyl disturb anything. If the weather is warm enough, and you're close enough to the dragon, I'll meet you up there one day and let you hear it.... On a side note, I bought a set of pipes off ebay for $100 so I could save my stock pipes.

Just stay away from the dealership for inspections. Ask any loud pipe Harley guy where he gets his bike inspected and go there. But I do have my stocker just in case.
