View Full Version : New 599 in Jersey
deltron 08-12-2008, 10:10 PM Hi All!
I'm glad I found this website. I was originally shopping for a BMW F800S and didn't find it to fit well. They had a great forum online though. I unexpectedly stumbled to the Honda 599 and then this forum. I was originally not even looking at Honda. I sat on a 919 and it felt good, but I wished for something a little smaller, and then I found this left over 599 and it just felt great sitting on. Everything about it felt right.
Tomorrow I go to settle the deal on the 599 and hopefully they deliver it by Friday. It's a new (left over) 2006 Black 599. I can't wait to take it around the block.
I'm a new rider (took the MSF course) and I was originally shopping for something smaller than 600cc, but this bike feels so comfortable to sit on. It's so light and as a new rider its a nice feeling.
I'm sure to learn lots from you guys about this bike, I can't wait.
John
playhockeyeh 08-12-2008, 11:20 PM John, congrats on your new 599. Have fun and be safe!
:woohoo
djamalt 08-13-2008, 01:22 AM Good luck. Let us know what kind of deal you end up working out.
Super Sneaky Steve 08-13-2008, 08:36 AM Honda's are way better than BMW's. Chicks dig em.
some guy 08-13-2008, 10:33 AM It's true!! I was riding mine yesterday and a chick walking her dog
couldn't stop looking at me, but I'm sure it was the bike and not me
deltron 08-13-2008, 11:29 AM Thanks everyone!
I worked out $6100 on the bike, and $300 for destination & dealer prep. I got a really great deal. I stopped by the dealer this morning and paid for the bike and setup the insurance. They'll be delivering the bike tomorrow or Friday. I hope sooner, but I just want it for the weekend.
I bought a Scorpion helmet, EXO-1000, and a Scorpion protective jacket. I just need to get boots & protective pants. I should be able to wait a week or two and space out all these purchases.
As far as chicks go, I thought chicks would be swarming around me when I bought my BMW (auto) two years ago. Nope! The younger you are, and the chick, maybe... I'm edging toward 30 and having cool stuff no longer attracts the chicks.
I don't care though!! I think riding is cool enough without the gawking chicks, but if they show up, that'd be a nice bonus!!
I'll post some pics when the bike gets delivered.

Who wants "chicks" just send in the MILF's :D

Just wait till your at a light and you drop down that little inner shaded visor on your EXO-1000, fighter pilot style. Then you'll see!!!
playhockeyeh 08-13-2008, 03:12 PM I think we need a video demonstration of this process!

pecos28 08-15-2008, 09:52 AM welcome to the club. where do you live in Jersey? i am in Philly.
deltron 08-15-2008, 07:36 PM pecos, I'm up in North Jersey in Bergen County.
So an update to my bike delivery. The guys at the dealership kept giving me different days when they'd deliver my bike to my home, so I got fed up and decided I'd ride the thing back home taking some side roads. The bike was prepped, and they claimed to have replaced the battery (it's been sitting around since '06).
I get there this morning, run through the controls. I have my buddy behind driving behind me. I practiced in the parking lot next door and did some quick stops, figure eights, etc... Figure I'm ready to go, so we take off, he's behind me. I encounter this small hill. It's not that steep, I stall twice, finally start up ok. Then I get to this pretty steep hill I need to make a right on. Oh boy... I stall like 8 times, then... the bike won't start!
So I do the walk of shame, get off my bike push it up this damn hill a bit, then turn off right, push it to the first parking lot I find. So I'm pushing it for 5 minutes. I thought maybe I flooded the engine and wait 20 minutes, try to start again, it still doesn't start. I call the dealer and ask them to pick me up.
By the end of day I get a call from them and they say the problem was the battery and they replaced it, and will deliver it tomorrow. But didn't they replace the battery? That was suppose to be two days ago. I don't think they replaced it, hopefully they did this time.
Any who, I'm crossing my fingers they deliver it tomorrow. I had a great time riding it for those 2 miles. Stalling on the hill was a humbling experience, and a good one, I know for sure its gonna be some time before I decide to tackle the road blindly.
sharkirule 08-15-2008, 07:41 PM Congrats and good luck :o
599'R 08-15-2008, 07:47 PM I'm also in Bergen County, where did you buy your "06"?
djamalt 08-15-2008, 07:55 PM Let me tell you, the 06 has a notorious bad battery problem. If you do a search on the forum you'll find a long trail of complaints about it. If they did change it, you'll most likely be fine. Oh, and buy a battery tender and a full on charger if you have the spare cash.
deltron 08-15-2008, 08:17 PM 599, I bought it at Pompton Honda Suzuki. I first discover the 599 at Honda Sport Cycles in Metuchen. I really liked the way it felt, but I didn't jump on it. It might still be there, this was two weeks ago.
djamalt, Do you have any links to a good battery tender and charger I can buy online? I heard that it was a good idea to get a tender for the winter, or if I don't ride often, or ride hard enough to get the RPMs high enough to charge the battery. I'll most likely be riding very lightly for a couple of weeks. This bike has some serious power for a newbie like me.
Do you guys think I need to worry about my battery, even if they replace it?
For an '06 that has been sitting for a while, what would they need to do to prep it up and make it ridable? Change the oil? Lube the chain? Any adjustments? This experience has made me leery (or paranoid) now, almost to the point where I want to go to a different Honda dealer nearby and ask them to check it out.
599'R 08-15-2008, 08:46 PM I saw the 599 at Pompton Lakes last year just after taking my MSF BRC and immediately fell in love with this bike. I got mine from Hanover powersports out in Whippany in June of 07.
As for the battery issue make them put a new battery in and definately pick up a battery tender, I had the same problems with mine initially.
deltron 08-15-2008, 09:27 PM 599, funny you saw my bike a year ago. How long did it take you to get use to it? 1st was kinda rough, but it was rough on the Suzuki GN125 bike I used at MSF. I went to the one at FDU in Teaneck. 2cd was much smoother, as is 2cd on the 599.
I've seen lots of people suggest Battery Tender Jr. Which one did you get? Do you use your tender every night or weekly?
The folks at Pompton said they replaced the battery. They said that before though too. There is no way for me to check, so I'll just trust them. Looking forward to getting the bike tomorrow.
599'R 08-15-2008, 09:59 PM I also went to FDU for the coarse, had a great experience. I'm still very much in the learning stages myself, didn't get much riding in last summer just taking it in stride. This is a great site, you should find it very helpfull, great group of people here.
The Battery Tender JR is what I got at Pep Boys I think for about 30 bucks If I remember correctly. I usually keep it plugged in when I know I'm not gonna have a chance to ride for more then a week but I'm probably just being over cautious.
Good luck with getting the bike tomorrow.
