View Full Version : Maybe joining club soon
pdibsie 09-10-2008, 11:06 AM Hey all,
Just wanted to finally stop in and say hi as I may be riding a 599 soon. After much looking I have found one, but unfortunately it's not exactly a steal. I am curious what you all might think about paying for a 2006 stock 599 with low miles. It has been listed for $6499. Of course I wouldn't be paying that, but should I try to lower the price or opt for a much needed upgrade in gear?
Wondering how everybody chooses to approach negotiations. I look forward to contributing very soon!

Super Sneaky Steve 09-10-2008, 11:19 AM Offer $5k then walk away. If it's not in perfect condition pay no more than $4K.
Welcome to the site!
Transient 09-10-2008, 12:46 PM Take a look at some of the used bike guides. Depending on how low the miles are, $5000 could be a good deal. I wouldn't really expect $4k on an '06, particularly if you're working with a dealer.
The tradeoff for gear might seem like a good idea, but I'd focus on getting the cost of the bike down and using your savings to pick and choose the best gear separately.
SLC599er 09-10-2008, 12:51 PM I love my '06, but not for $6500!
Where are you at geographically, maybe someone around here knows of a local bike for sale.
pdibsie 09-10-2008, 01:11 PM I'm in Colorado. I am living right now between the eastern and western parts of the state, so it's all fair game.
It definitely seems way too high, however I am going to see what I can get it down to in a bit. I'm very anxious to get a 599, but I'm trying to not let my excitement cloud my judgement. No sense paying $1500 extra just to have it now, esp. with winter around the corner.
SLC599er 09-10-2008, 01:43 PM One piece of advice I would give you is to start browsing/searching the craigslist motorcycle section in every city that you realistically would be willing to travel to get a bike. Be sure to include smaller towns that have there own craigslist site (I looked in SLC for months and stumbled on to my 599 on the Logan craigslist, 90 miles north.) There are multiple-craigslist-search sites out there if you're willing to tinker with your browser a little to make them work.
Shipping is a few hundred bucks as well, may be worth it for a pristine bike that's too far to see, but make sure it's from a dealer, not a private party.
pdibsie 09-10-2008, 08:50 PM Thanks a ton for the advice everyone. It's definitely a difficult search, but I son't settle. I did go and see the bike again and while it is looking very good, I did also notice that it has been dropped on both sides. Looks like on one side it fell over and the other side maybe a very low speed lay down. No damage to the tank or any plastic, but some slight cosmetic damage to various engine parts. Still a beautiful bike, but if they won't negotiate down pretty far then I will have to pass. I will keep you all updated!
Thanks again for the help and when I finally make a purchase I will have to post some pictures!
yeroC 09-11-2008, 05:45 AM If it looks like it's been dropped once not to mention twice and the dealer/seller
won't come down on that price that's already too high, then respectfully tell
them to go screw themselves with a spiked bat. Yeah 599's are a little hard
to find but 6500 for a used bike that's seen pavement possibly more than
once--negative Ghost Rider!
Keep looking friend. Now if they want to come down to say 5000 to 5500,
that ain't too bad. Good luck.
Oh, and :welcome
Looks like you've been given some great advise. Keep shopping!
And :welcome to the site!
beesting 09-12-2008, 12:44 PM keep looking, I bought my 06 for 6400$ out the door brand new! I cant believe they would try to sell you a used bike thats been down twice for that much.
sodaking663rd 09-12-2008, 02:30 PM as others mentioned that's way too much. use this site called crazedlist (http://crazedlist.org/)
you have to be using firefox to get it to work but it's a godsend when you're looking for something very specific like a 599. the wait will be worth it.
realistically if they are asking that much move on because they are not going to drop $1500 off of their asking price. good luck!
oh and beesting please change your avatar it's making me ill :)
SLC599er 09-12-2008, 04:31 PM Come to think of it, I think I was using crazedlist when I found my bike. Highly recommended (although you might have to tinker with your browser settings a little to get it to work).
earlytkid 09-15-2008, 09:36 AM I gave less than $6499 for my bike new on the showroom floor a few weeks ago.
