New to the forum about to buy my first 599! Really excited about this bike. I have been looking for awhile with no luck and then Lo and Behold 2 2006 599's pop up in my community! Well then the first one of these bikes is straight stock save a larger fairing, and is in great condition. Has 7118 miles with new new tires. They are asking 5899 for it.

The second one has 4165 miles and many modifications including lowered handlebars, LED front turnsignals, an MIVV exhaust, and aftermarket mirrors. They are asking 5999 but I talked them down to 5699 and out the door. My Question is, how much do the lowered handlebars affect the ride? I am still somewhat of a new rider. This is my graduation from my honda 250 of about a year. Do those handlebars make the ride more uncomfortable especially on the highway? This bike also seems to have been ridden a little harder than the first. Do either of these sound like good deals?

Sorry for the weird difference in pix, I didn't bring a camera to see the first bike they are just off the web.

Thanks for any input.

Both are quite overpriced...

Both bikes seem a little high price-wise to me, particularly this time of year, but I don't know your market.

As between the two, I'd pick the second unless it's visibly trashed. MIVV pipe is really sweet and if the lowered bars don't fit you, returning to stock should be pretty cheap and easy (You might even be able to get someone around here to trade with you).

The first one does have a cool windscreen that I've never seen before.

Good luck and welcome to the board.

I will... I'll even pay shipping for both...

Thanks for the quick replies, that gives me a much better Idea of what I have to work with...whats really nice is that since there are 2 in town and both are at dealers I can use the dealers against each other for my business

Let me get one of them first and If I dont like the handlebars you have first dibs JHenley17

Both are a little high. I wouldn't want to pay more than 5500 personally,
but it's not too too bad a deal. Just remember the deasler (that was actually
a typo but it fits because it rhymes with weasler  ) is trying to make a buck
so they are gonna tack a little something onto the price. I would prolly go
for the modded bike unless like SLC said it's visibly trashed or looks like
it's been laid down. As long as the dealer is offering a warranty with the slightly
high price it should be OK. The other bike would be good because as you
say it's in great condition, with new tires. Slightly higher miles but it all
depends on how they were put on. You'd do good with either bike i think.

I agree, both are over priced.

It sounds like you're trying to buy through dealers. Try to buy from a person and offer no more than $4500 for a used one.

Yeah... I got my 2004 for $4100 with 4000 miles on it. Those two up there are way off the board.

Not off-hand. I know the '04's blue book for $4490 with an assumed 17,100 miles (no way to change that).

Kelly Blue Book quotes $5245 for a 2006 599, though I think it depends on your area.
You can get quotes online here:

Not sure I'd mind very much what KBB says though, I've seen it be way out of line with what bikes actually sell for (both high and low).

new 2006 6k + all the associated fees...

On NADA it lists average retail around 5,505 stock and KBB is listing 5,245 as far as shopping at dealers goes. I'm doing so because these are the only 2 that are actually close to me the next closest one selling by a private seller is in San Diego. I have been searching crazedlist, oogle, ebay, and cycletrader for the last couple of months.

Thanks again for all the feedback though. It will help me get the bike I want for a decent price. I will keep you all updated how it all goes.
