Cool video - some wild traffic maneuvering in there. Maybe that's what everyone in CA does.... 8)

Cool vid!! The lane splitting gets me everytime i see it. I couldn't
imagine!! . But it's eerily cool and kinda gangsta.

Yeah, you see him closing in on the trucks, and I am like, nooooooo don't do it, and he cuts to the right. Crazy stuff.

I tell ya, it must take some nerves of steel to lane split between two semis. Or brains of mush. I can't quite guess which way I would lean if asked! I'll stay on my sparesely travelled rural routes on my bike.

Props to that dude. I've ridden the 710 twice on 2 wheels and don't like it at all. Between all the onramps and all the trucks coming in and out of the shipping yards, it's insane!!! I'll do it again for the Long Beach Motorcycle Show though. LOL. (then again, that's on a weekend, no trucks)

Is that the only Los Angeles motorcycle show? I am looking for a show to test some gear out; jackets, helmets, gloves, luggage etc...

Anybody know of any show like that?

Um, yeah, the tween truck lane splitting is CRAZY. +1 on the "noooooooooo!!" response. I've only lane split through LaLaLand once in the melting heat at less than 10mph (on my Blast). And that was a bit nerve wracking. At speed, ya just never know what wacko cager is gonna just decide to slide over when you happen to be there. They do it when you're in the adjacent lane by YOURSELF, so...:yell

The Long Beach show is the next one in the area _I_ know about. There are others at other times of the year, just none others sooner or in other SoCal areas that I've seen any time soon.

Dunno about "shows like that", as I have yet to make it to one of these, no matter what the type.

Darnit, I think I may be up skiing for this one, too!

Terrible to be me, eh?

I actually think that lane splitting at higher speeds (55+ mph... tho possibly illegal) can sometimes be safer than lane splitting at low speeds (25-35 mph). At first, lane splitting at 60-80 mph might sound just outright crazy, but when traffic is flowing at 55 mph or more, automobile drivers are far less likely to suddenly swerve without warning into the next lane to make a lane change. Whereas when traffic is congested, frustrated drivers will often jerk their cars into the opening in the lane next to them without checking their blindspots, mirrors, or signaling.

I think your logic is sound, but that's sortof like saying it's safer to put your hand on a hot iron than under a blowtorch. You left-coast guys are nuts. ;-)

LeatherWings knows what he's talking about. It definitely feels safer when you're splitting at higher speeds (while everyone else is driving faster, too). From experience I can tell you that it's true.

Having said that... I split all the time, but you won't catch me flying like that between huge trucks.... there's just no way.
