It happened when I left work Monday evening. I pulled out of work, got on it in first, shifted into 2nd gear... saw the light changing to red up ahead, applied brakes and downshifted. As soon as I did the previous the front end locked up... from what I remember went into some crazy tank slap and next thing I know I am rolling down the road. I attribute what happened to me being an idiot and pushing cold tires too hard. Good thing is I am ok for the most part. I have alot of swelling and pain in my right wrist. I am waiting on the final call, but they seem to think I have fractured it. Other than that I have some brush burn on my right leg. I thank God nothing worse happened. I attribute my lack of road rash and headache to my Fieldsheer jacket, joe rocket gloves, and my Arai Astral-X helmet. I could have been in alot worse shape if it wern't for my gear. Bike doesn't appear to be totalled, just pretty scratched up on the left side.

Damaged:
-fuel tank
-headlight cluster (guages are ok)
-tail section
-left engine case cover
-handlebars
-bar end mirror
-pride

Another good man down! Glad to hear you're OK and the bike seems relatively fine as well.

Sorry to hear about this... But glad that you came out relatively unscathed. Perhaps there is a good lesson to be learned somewhere here. Any pics of the damage?

That sucks. :? Hopefully you have insurance that will take care of your bike. Meanwhile, take good care of your wrist.

:thumbsup for wearing your gear.

I am going to take pics next time I am at the shop (friday). Adjuster came out and accessed $3500 in damage...less my 1000 deductible. It will cost me about 800 in repairs. I am working on a shopping list for the rest.

Things I have decided on so far.

-ProTaper bars
-ProTaper grips
-Clear Alternative tail light
-CRG bar end mirror

Things I am still trying to decide on...
-tires (leaning towards Dunlop road-smarts)
-exhaust
-new suit (stuck between Joe Rocket and A Stars)

Question to those with MIVV exhausts... do they get very really hot? I have soft luggage I don't want to melt if at all possible. If it gets hot I will simply by a Two Brothers carbon.

Ouch... good to hear about the gear doing its job.

If you mean the X-cone, it gets warm, but I've grabbed it and held it while the bike was running and warm and was just fine.

JHen is right. Although... on the ride I took this weekend (90 degree weather) my MIVV did get very hot. HOWEVER, it was no hotter than the stock heat shield would get when I had the stock system set up. And that system was supposedly safe for most bags of any decent quality (hard or soft). So even though the MIVV might get really hot on a hot day, I would guess your bags would still be okay.

Glad you are mostly OK. The moral of the story is...warm dem dang tires up before you push 'em!!! My friend just laid his R1 down a few weeks back...in a parking lot! He got on it cold (40F) and goosed it a little right out of the box. That was all she wrote! slid it down the right side. The funny part was that he was able to jump away from it and run himself to a stop without getting hurt. Summer tires pretty much suck under 50F. Gotta warm them up!!!
