Are you talking about the headers or the actual exhaust pipe right along side of the tail section?

If you're talking about cleaning the headers, or downpipes, a scotch-brite and metal polish works great.

Problem is - it lasts about a 100 miles and they turn brown again. So I wouldn't get too worked up about getting them too sparkly clean... it takes a lot of work and the results don't last very long.

Newfoundland, you say?! The Winters ARE long and we haven't had snow yet, which means when we do get snow we will most likely have it until June :(. I still haven't put my bike away for good, I'm trying to prolong it as long as I can, praying for a nice day.

Where in Newfoundland are you located?

So like what, TWO people in Newfoundland ride and they both ride 599s? Mad props to both of you guys. (I used to live in Alaska :) )

My advice on the exhaust is to let it be and use the beer-drinking time to keep the rest of the bike spotless.

Or have the headers coated.

Hey, hey , hey....more than two people in Newfoundland ride. There's at least three because my father has a bike. All joking aside I've seen about 5 different 599 riders here, that's a big deal. :banana

I tried oven cleaner after the exhaust was hot and then rinsed it off with water and was surprised how shiny clean it was. Be careful not to inhale.
