View Full Version : Dallas Motorcycle Show
carlitos_92 11-09-2008, 07:32 PM Anybody up for it? Saturday? Sunday?
It's this (http://www.motorcycleshows.com/motorcycleshows/static/staticHtml.jsp?id=358885), November 14-16.
I might not ride, depending on weather, but I want to go, regardless.
motorico 11-09-2008, 10:34 PM I'm heading there on Sunday. Driving down with relatives in town.
Transient 11-10-2008, 12:06 AM Aaaaaaabsolutely. Saturday or Sunday are cool for me. Progressive shot me a $3 off coupon, and I think Motoliberty has $2 off coupons in-store.
Black Eye 11-10-2008, 04:45 AM I'll be there Saturday sometime. You can find me in the Ducati section checking out the new Monster 1100. :-)

I got the coupon as well.
So far, it looks like it might be chilly that weekend; I might just cage it. Unless you just have to ride, we should at least carpool, yeah? I'll PM or something later. Not sure yet if one day is better than the other for me.
Transient 11-11-2008, 11:11 AM Sidenote - Ducati Dallas / Advanced Motorsports shot me a note about a Ducati event all weekend, too. Group rides, BBQ, a "Ducati Fashion Show" on Saturday, the Hypermotard Demo Truck, drinks and, I'm pretty sure, free money.
motorico 11-12-2008, 08:15 AM Hmm, I wonder if there are demo rides at the Ducati shop?
Actually, it's not that far from the convention center...
Transient 11-12-2008, 09:49 AM Same thing I'm wondering, Rico.

Transient 11-14-2008, 10:08 AM I'll be heading out to the show on Sunday.
Black Eye 11-16-2008, 07:09 AM I was disappointed, the bike I went to see (Monster 1100) was up on a lift stand and they didn't allow you to sit on it. The had the (Monster 1100S) there also up on a stand.
It was very impressive in person, alot meatier than the 696.
The demo rides on the Hypermotards were being done yesterday - Saturday at AMS. Not sure on Sunday - they are probably closed is my guess.

motorico 11-17-2008, 01:29 PM The silver/red frame Monster was gorgeous. I did sit on the 696 again and I have to ask if all the Ducati designers are eunuchs. The seat has a shape that causes an uncomfortable lean into the gas tank.
All in all I was disappointed. The lack of BMW was a downer as I was hoping to see some of the newer models. I also noticed that the Gladius appears to be the naked SV-650 replacement. I saw the Street Triple but didn't bother trying to sit on it. The Triumph presence was rather ho-hum as well.
Nothing at the show made me want to drop a few grand to get a new bike.
I did get some new gloves designed by a doctor that are supposed to relieve strain and numbness. I am still getting used to the feel with the pads. If I like them I may go for the sport guantlets when they are available.
The most exciting purchase I made: a new wallet. They had these really thin wallets that hold quite a few cards without a great deal of bulk.

You paid $10+ to get into a convention center to buy a wallet?
I wanted to go at first, because I go to the auto show every year without fail, but had never been to a bike show. I ended up deciding that if I wanted to sit on a bike, I'd just go to a dealer. It's not like I'm interested in more than about two or three brands, anyway... Oh well, maybe next year.
sodaking663rd 11-24-2008, 04:09 PM can i ask a really stupid question...can you get on the bikes? i have done some youtube research and it looks like most of them are roped off.
djamalt 11-24-2008, 07:27 PM The "show" bikes are usually roped off. Sometimes you can sit on them, but usually not. The rest of the bikes are fair game and you can sit on them, step on the brake, clutch it up and down, lift the kick stand, etc - you just have to be ready for a salesperson to come talk ask "so when are you looking to buy" and all that jazz.
motorico 11-25-2008, 08:12 AM Most of the current production line is available for one to sit upon. It was a bit disappointing in that the new Monster 1100 was roped off.
Hopefully all the brands you are interested in are at your show. I was bummed that BMW wasn't represented.
carlitos_92 11-20-2011, 10:01 AM It's 12/2-12/4 this year. Who wants to go?

I feel like I should go, just because I missed last year, and because it's a chance to see a bunch of bikes without the hard sell... But the fact that I don't see BMW, Aprilia, OR Ducati on the floor plan pisses me off. WTF.

We Texuns dunt wunt nunn uh dem thurr pasta rockets. Theys for the frootee boys.

Pretty strong words coming from someone who lives in Cincitucky.
Really, our problem around here isn't that $30,000 bikes don't sell - it's that the guys who buy the $30,000 bikes have personal relationships with their frootee dealers and don't go to motorcycle shows with us unwashed masses. :-(

Pasta rockets--love it!

I'll be out of town on Saturday and Sunday. I would also advise against going on Sunday unless you ride. That is also the same day at the White Rock Marathon so parking may be hard to find.
At least this year Triumph is showing up. The lack of other those manufacturers irks me.
Transient 11-21-2011, 10:07 AM Seems a bit pointless when it's just a few brands. Le sigh.
I just went to the San Mateo show. BMW and Ducati are there, but unlike the last year, they have a super tiny cramped space. I'm going to start a thread in Pictures about this in the next day or two.

Interesting. I know in LA last year or the year before last the local dealer(s) just got together and showed up with little or no corporate support. I doubt that will happen here - it didn't the last time I went. :-(
