On Friday, I was heading to meet my girlfriend so we could drive together to the Warriors game. Traffic was heavy on the highway due to it being rush hour, but everything went fine all the way.

I exited the highway and got into town traffic as usual. I was in a left-hand turn lane behind a line of 4 cars, and when the light turned green, we all proceeded to make the turn onto Carolan Ave. Carolan is a 4 lane road with 2 lanes going in each direction. The lady in front of me turned into the far right lane, and I proceeded to turn into the left lane.

After 40-50 feet, she turns left into my lane (without using her blinker, urgh!) trying to make a u-turn across the double yellow to get back to the intersection we just went through. I swerve but there was no way of avoiding her as she had blocked the entirety of my lane, and I hit her front fender. I was going probably 15 mph when we collided, and I rolled into the oncoming lane of traffic but thankfully no cars are there.

There's not much to tell after that. Supposedly, she had taken the wrong exit and needed to get to the other side of the highway. She was pulling a u-turn so she could head back the other way, and unfortunately, she never looked to see if anyone was in the lane next to her.

Damage to me is minimal. My shoulder and knee ache, and that's about it. I was wearing all my gear, and you should too! My bike is at a shop getting looked at, and we'll see how her insurance company wants to handle this. The cop on scene was a rider himself, and he seemed to be on my side along with all the bystanders that had been nearby. I guess it's public transportation for me for a while.

Good luck to everyone out there, and I'll post up some pics later on tonight.

Just think Mitch, you are two for two and aren't even badly hurt. That's gotta count for something!

All things being equal, you should come out of this with your bike just as good as it was before the accident... if not better.

That is the truth. I consider myself awfully lucky.

All things being equal, you should come out of this with your bike just as good as it was before the accident... if not better.

Here's to hoping! I still have a dent on my tank from when it went down the first time. I'm not going to say a word, and I'll just see what happens.

Sorry about that, Mitch. Two for you, two for me. Glad you're not banged up too badly.

This week I'm actually supposed to hear about a final settlement offer from my incident in August so we'll see what happens.

If you need help with dealing with her insurance, let me know. They're tricky bastards. Don't get the wrong idea, but I'm actually glad I wasn't wearing a lot of gear because I would have no leverage for a pain and suffering settlement. But it's not a gamble you want to take - if you're lucky enough to head to hospital for treatment but not hurt permanently, then you're golden. You don't get hurt, and well... you just get your bike patched up. We all the know the other extreme.

Let me know if I can help.

Ugh. Totally sucks, man. Sometimes, there's just not a lot that you can do - glad you were geared up.

Happy to hear you're OK. Let's hope there isn't a "Year Three, Accident Three" post next year.

P.S. I hope the 599 comes back without that dent ;)

:banghead :???:

Sorry to hear this Mitch. The important thing is that you're mostly unharmed. Insurance will take care of the bike.

Ditto. And what's up with SUV drivers doing stupid shit like that all the time? I really think they need to have another class of license to let people drive those things. Don't get me wrong, SUVs are kick ass, but people keep driving them like they are f*$&)@g go carts.

Glad you're OK.

If there's something I hate more on the road than SUVs are SUV drivers that don't look or use their turn lights.

Glad to hear you are ok.

My only two sugestions would be to get a LOUD muffler and a Stebel Nautilus Compact air horn. They gotta know you're around. If in doubt... BLAST em. I do and it works trust me ! ! !

yeah, I bet the muffler would have helped them to notice me, but I definitely didn't have time to blast the horn. Ah well, such is life. I did get a new exhaust from AleX though, but I'm not going to put it on until this summer when I move out of my current neighborhood.

THE LOUDER THE BETTER. When a Harley with straight pipes is near, you know it and your watching for him. I took my Micron apart and wrapped the inside pipe with metal foil tape (metal duct tape from Home Depot). So now I am virtually running straight pipes. If they can't see me, they can hear me. Trust me ,it is a safety feature.
