View Full Version : Cincinnati West route
JBarx 04-19-2009, 04:16 PM No one to work with here except rfoap and he never posts. But this is a route I've honed and modified and finally took the time to map out... for those interested in seeing what SW Ohioians have to work with. There are better roads in KY, but for a quick local loop with some technical roads, this is enough to keep you sharp.

Westside, never post ... MAN. Well, it looks like I have to see if I can hold my own, and well, I too have detailed out the route I love to take, though this one is into Kentucky. My route even has time for lunch halfway. I had to do a KY route only because going east of Cincinnati, is well, bland(ish). Anyway, JBarx, we'll have to tackle both routes this riding season.

JBarx 04-20-2009, 07:31 PM Yep, I know that loop.
22 and 227 (Owenton) are the best roads I've ever ridden. 22 is remarkably smooth for how remote everything is out there. Where do you eat? Falmouth? And Ten Mile to that intersection in Lindale is a nice little cruise. Very farm-residential kind of scenic.

Here's another loop with a stop in Rabbit hash and another in Florence for some Sonic.

It ain't the Dragon, but I've almost killed myself twice on these roads. Respect them or pay. I was on my Nighthawk 2 years ago and was on a right-hand sweeper that led into a decending-radius right corner that I was not equipped to handle at the speed I was carrying. Fortunately these roads are lightly traveled, because I was hanging on for dear life with my left leg smacking weeds on the opposite shoulder. If someone was coming the other way I would have been an obituary.
That aside, it's a long ride but a very fun one if you keep your pace. There are a lot of old covered bridges to check out along the way too. Very serene, hilly, farms-and-woods landscape.

I'd be willing to give this one a try with you over the summer ... just let me know!
JBarx 05-06-2009, 09:04 PM Sounds like plan, Stan.
rfoap 06-21-2009, 01:55 PM I went with JBarx today on his suggested SW Ohio route. He clearly has a handle on the roads out there ... though at the very end, we had a run in with a deer. No issues, speed was good and deer was quick enough to get out of the way. I guess JBarx can voice whether it was too close for comfort or no sweat. Good route!

Yeah it a was a fun spin. Doesn't really take too long either.
As for the deer, I'm sure it looked closer than it was, but it was enough to make me poo a little in my pants. I had a lot to worry about in those couple tenths of a second - smashing a deer in front, possibly getting a Pilot Road 2 in my ass from the back, and getting pitched down the road at speeds I am not used to. Road rash at 20mph? No problem. 50? No thanks.
