View Full Version : DFW general BS
Pyxlwyz 05-13-2009, 12:02 AM Since there's such a decently large contingent of DFW Horneteers (?), I thought I'd start a thread for us to BS, and maybe arrange rides or meets.
...for example:
Tonight my friends and I got together, did some routine maintenance, rode 1378 up and back, and stopped for a burger. Pretty good for a Tuesday evening. :)

anyone else ride today? Tommorow? I think we may head to Twin Peaks in Plano for lunch.
Transient 05-13-2009, 07:07 AM I ride every day I possibly can. As long as going to work counts. :P
91_4x4runner 05-13-2009, 10:53 AM I'm in College Station for the better part of the year and San Antonio for the summer/winter breaks, but let me know if a ride gets organized. I'd be down for it....
Pyxlwyz 05-15-2009, 06:39 PM We're hanging out at Red Neck Heaven tonite. The grubs ok, but the view is awesome!

Same here, pretty much.
I am thinking about riding down to Austin in a few weeks to help my folks move into their new house. I'll probably avoid the interstate, but there's no getting around the fact that it's a long ride. We'll see if my eagerness to ride (and the weather) holds out.
Pyxlwyz 05-18-2009, 10:30 PM My friends and I went to Cutie Pie's Roadhouse in Grapevine on Sunday. Apparently they host a stunt bike event there every Sunday from 3-6pm. Now, stunting isnt exactly my thang (mad respect, tho), but it was fun to watch, and see all the crazy custom gixxers and whatnot. Oh, and the "cuties" weren't hard to look at either, heh.

great BBQ too...
PS. I saw a yellow '04 in the swarm of bikes in the parking lot, though, never got to see the rider.

This is what happens when Hooters becomes too "mainstream" and is no longer "redneck" enough.

Hah! indeed, sir. My friends and I have been sampling these type of places lately, mainly for the waitreses and motorcycle parking. Its a "destination", other than McD's or Chipolte. So far we've been to: Hooters, Twin Peaks, Redneck Heaven, BBCutie, and Cutie Pies.
motorico 05-20-2009, 11:09 AM Great, you've just added to the list of places I need to check out now. :)
I will cross Twin Peaks off the list because the food just isn't worth the trouble of putting my gear on. Since I won't drink and ride, that place is useless.
motorico 05-20-2009, 11:11 AM This is what happens when Hooters becomes too "mainstream" and is no longer "redneck" enough.
It also sounds like a Monday night ride destination...
I saw the place and wondered if it were actual pie, like Pioneer Pies in OKC. Mmmm, strawberry pie.
Transient 05-20-2009, 12:41 PM I will cross Twin Peaks off the list because the food just isn't worth the trouble of putting my gear on. Since I won't drink and ride, that place is useless.
Agreed 100%.

Which of those is best. My favorite place in that genre is Bone Daddies. It's great that it also happens to be my wife's favorite BBQ place. I hate getting BBQ.
motorico 05-21-2009, 09:47 AM It pains me to announce that the coming out party for the Ducati Streetfighter is the 23rd. Why pain, I have to be in OKC for a family obligation.
Maybe the bike looks better in person than it does on my screen.

I don't think I'll attend. I really don't think it's a good idea. I absolutely love how the bike looks and can definitely find a way to make the money sort itself out. I just hope that, in the next month or two, more reports come out that say that it's just not all it's cracked up to be.
Please.
Pyxlwyz 05-26-2009, 10:15 PM Post-Weekend Ride Report: Sunday me & my buds met up at the Sonic outside of Wylie and did some back country twisties, then headed to Cutie Pies to see the "stuntaz" and "cuties" do their thing. About 2 miles outside of Grapevine it started to rain on and off. No stunt riders at CP's so we headed to Sneaky Petes on Lake Lewisville and enjoyed watching the what-have-you for a couple hours until the rain cleared up and headed out. Overall pretty good.
Here's the route, for posterity.

JBarx 05-26-2009, 10:33 PM Sonic is the hits. We got a couple within 30 miles, but I never had it until I visited my brother in TN last year. Delicious. Had it three days in a row. Tater tots are good.
Pyxlwyz 05-31-2009, 01:35 AM The schedule tomorrow is a repeat of last Sunday, minus the rain. We're meeting at Sonic (north of Wylie on FM 1378 ). at noon.
...last minute post, I know, but maybe you DFW Hornet guys wake up early with nothing to do. :idonno:
Transient 05-31-2009, 12:26 PM Went riding with the TXSBR group and just got back. 'Bout 150 miles including the commute. Tons of fun, but wow. I'm beat!
Pyxlwyz 06-05-2009, 09:02 AM Last night, we went to check out the Bike Night at High 5 Cycles (635 & Greenville), and oh boy! There must have been 200+ bikes there. I've never seen such a large amount of sport bikes. Very cool to see such a huge variety ...though only one "Hornet" aside from mine, a 919 w/yosh pipes.

Pyxlwyz 06-23-2009, 11:20 PM Did a good ride last Sunday with my crew. We went to Cutie Pies in Grapevine to watch the stunters again. I guess they're out there from 7-10pm every Sunday now. Its good fun, and BBQ, with some babes.
Here's the crazy route I plotted out.

carlitos_92 07-02-2009, 09:51 PM It's getting motherfricking HOT out there! Damn!
My temp gauge hit over 240 on the way home from work today...
The bike was pretty warm, too.
I'm thinking I might have to do the opposite of the northern folk, and put my bike away for the summer. I mean, since it hits 70F on xmas day now...
91_4x4runner 07-02-2009, 11:30 PM Yep, definitely a scorcher. It was almost intolerable riding in rush-hour traffic down here. Must've hit a buck-5 on the road today.
Pyxlwyz 07-03-2009, 12:58 AM We rode George Bush to Redneck Heaven after work, and I swear, the air above the road surface must have been 150 degrees. No matter how fast we went, it was still uncomfortable. Like a hair dryer or something.
PS. after RNH, we hit Cutie Pies for the Bike Nite. I saw two different asphalt hornets, but only one of the riders (black boots & jacket). I would have stopped to say hello, but we were heading out.
Transient 07-03-2009, 07:30 AM I think most of the Hornets in the area that I don't know about are stunting bikes. Everyone I run into around here makes that same comment. "OH, THATS A GREAT STUNTING BIKE"
motorico 07-03-2009, 12:55 PM I really dig the blast furnace rides on the way home after work.
I have considered riding after dark, but the only twisty road close by has no lights and the surface is bad enough during the day.
I guess I could try to get all my riding for fun done before 9:30 AM.
honda freak 07-09-2009, 10:57 AM Yup....this heat is crazy! The humidity has been nuts too. I don't mind cold weather at all. At least you can dress for that. The heat is a totally different matter. I moved to Dallas from Vancouver almost 30 years ago and I still can't get used to the heat.:-(

It's hard to find time to ride and take care of the little kiddos all while making sure the wifey is happy with my "honey do list". Plus I haven't been working much. My savings is slowly dwindling......This economy sucks!!!

102F when I pulled in the garage today. Good grief. We are now at the point where there is a real possibility my helmet will not dry out before I need it again around dawn.
And Barry, IMHO I don't think the "arc of your bike progression" shanks so much that a Fury is the next point on the curve... Maybe something between naked/sporty and fake-custom-chopper. Your next step should be something unadorned and unruly.... A big Buell, maybe?

I agree. Some things could use some touches, but it does look nice in person. Can't see myself on a chopper anytime soon, but it looks nice.
Too bad most reviews I've read on it have some serious hate for the engine.
Pyxlwyz 07-10-2009, 09:53 AM I'm not a chopper kind of guy, but I can appreciate good engineering. I saw the Fury in person, and what stood out the most for me was the sort of cheapness of the frame. The bicycle tubes at the steering head especially... it just looked like something made in someone's garage. Which, I'm sure was how choppers came into existence, but times have changed when it comes to engineering.
BTW, I spotted two more 599's last night. I saw a black '06 with Buell style dual headlights/bar-end mirrors (and crash damage on the tank, ouch!) at Yucatan Beach Club on Beltline in Coppell, and a yellow '04 (stock) at Cutie Pies in Grapevine.
Holy Hell the ride from Cutie Pies to downtown Dallas was incredible.... There was well over 100 bikes in the swarm... maybe even 200! The sound was amazing.

Another bike that appeals to me is the Yamaha Star Warrior. My friend that used to own a '05 CBR 600rr, traded his bike in and got one. It's quite a nice bike. Unfortunately, it was stolen out from his own garage. He had stepped out for a little while and left his garage door open about a foot. When he got back, the bike was gone. He had no theft insurance. Bummer!!!
Don't get me wrong. I still love sport bikes. Maybe I'm just getting old....at least I've been feeling old lately. :thinking

Word. After seeing it, I remember being respectful of Honda's effort, but not blown away. There were a lot of components that looked like metal but were really plastic. I think it would be boring to own and ride. It's the beige Accord of choppers.
Pyxlwyz 10-11-2009, 11:27 PM This thread kinda died off, but I thought I'd bump it up.
My two friends/co-workers and I have been consistently doing one good "ride" on Saturday or Sundays the past few months. We don't belong to a group, so we try to do our own thing.
Yesterday we did a pretty long ride in the miserable weather (overcast 50F-60F). I plotted out an interesting route through some pine forests and rolling hills (East for a change). Overall, I counted 319 miles on my trip counter. The first half of the day the roads were dry, but the air was thick with mist, and our visors were constantly fogging. Oh, and it was freakin' freezing! I have an Olympia textile jacket w/ liner installed, so my core was fine, but my hands (damp leather!) and knees (long johns & jeans) were very cold. We made pretty frequent stops for hot chocolate/coffee, and to re-charge.
On a couple stops we traded bikes to sample the experience (Me-Hornet, Gene - Buell 1125CR, Saint - Ducati 1098S). Here's my mini-Bike Review:
Buell 1125CR - I've ridden Gene's XB12S, and its a very comfortable bike with comparable power to the Hornet, but the torque is much sooner-awesome, and the seat is cushy. The 1125CR is pretty similar in the ergonomics dept., but Holy Crap the power is amazing. The rotax V-twin is much more lively than the XB12, and vibes less. On the power its intoxicating.... twisting the throttle squashes your backside, and makes the speedo go to three digits in oh.. 4 seconds! Handling was good too, I instantly felt comfortable in the twisties.
Ducati 1098S - I'm no supersport rider, so the ergonomics were the most pressing issue for me. The shape of the tank on Ducati's really poke me in my gut (not hard, considering ;)), and the weight on my wrists ain't fun either. All that really didn't matter yesterday, 'cause when it was my stint on the Duck, the mist was increasing, the roads were dampening, and I was sitting on a $20k/150HP fire breathing beast! I didn't have any time to consider things like comfort, tractability, throttle response, etc. etc. Lets just say, I was intimidated :) That thing is far beyond my skillset. I can say that it turned telepathically, and had instantaneous speed. The sound was cool too.
They're review of the Hornet: LOVE IT. Everyone loved the confident seat height, the comfort, the manageable (but respectable) power, and overall satisfying ride. Towards the end of the day, everyone was wanting to swap to my bike for the ride home ;)
Since I'm the Navigator of our group, after every ride, I try to make a trip report with google maps to sum up where we went. Here's yesterdays, "Nav Report"
Pyxlwyz 10-17-2009, 10:13 PM Today my Ducati and Buell friends did a short stint and found an awesome stretch of road between Melissa and New Hope. It was smooth as butter asphault w/ lots of looooooooong sweepers with good elevation change. It was motorcycle crack, I say. We stopped in New Hope, and considered turning around and doing it again. mmmmm....
One of these days I really need to get you DFW troops to join us in the fun! Speak Up!
We started out pretty late (2pm), so it was fairly short, only a couple hours (with 3 rest stops). Here's the "nav-report"
honda freak 10-17-2009, 11:50 PM Sounds like a good time was had by you guys. As I get older and my kids (and wife  )get more demanding, I realize I cannot ride as much as I'd like to. But one of these days we will meet and have a blast on the bikes. In the mean time, I'll just keep an eye on your posts and maybe show up one day.

I've been well, Mr. Freak. Finally got the missing screw in my fuel cap replaced, so my 599 is the bestest 599 in the whole world. At least in my misguided opinion. Biggest flat spots in the world, at least! :D
Please tell me you're out of the "break in" period on your CBR!

LOL....not yet. I only have 115 miles on her. Adam also got one last week. He got an even better deal on a red one. He's only got 45 miles on it. It's been raining so much lately that we haven't done much riding.
Your opinion is not alone regarding the 599. I still think it is one of the best bikes ever built. All they need to perfect it is give it a fuel injection kit (2004 model) and upgrade the suspension. I wish they sold the new ones here. I would have happily purchased a 2009 model if they still sold them in the USA.
The last two days have been beautiful during the day. Evening riding is a different story. I forgot how cold it can get without that Aerostich suit. :rad
I need to pull out my Olympia over pants now. :) Either I'm getting fat or those things shrunk. I need to suck in a little more to button it up now.
Don't be a stanger. I haven't seen you for a TNDR in a while.

I don't have the time. I figure a motorcycle lunch to be at least an hour and a half between, suit up, ride, suit off, lunch, suit up, ride, suit off.

For future reference (even if it's next year) I work downtown FW and get off at noon on Fridays. :thumbsup

Shoot, that rode has almost as many curves as Olive Oil, Popeye's gal... sorry, another yank talking smack. Remember the Alamo and William B. Travis. Yes, Oliver Stone is a commi.
JBarx 11-10-2009, 08:26 AM Yeah we can do better than that in the Cincinnati tri-state area.

Pyxlwyz 11-10-2009, 01:02 PM the sad thing is, we had to ride nearly 200 miles to get there. North Texas sucks... that's why I'm motivated to report on what little I can find.

Saturday is a no go for me. I am considering Friday or Sunday. Sunday, C92 can make it. But that is the only day I'd have to go to Ft Worth and demo ride the Triumphs. Hmm, Kawasaki and Yamaha VS Triumph. Wish I had both Saturday and Sunday. It really just boils down to do I want to try the Z1000 and FZ1 versus a triple.
Oh, BTW, Triumph demo this weekend (http://www.eurosportcycle.com/)
honda freak 11-12-2009, 03:34 PM I might go on Sunday, but I will probably have my 19mos old with me. Can't leave the wife with both while I have all the fun.

honda freak 11-15-2009, 04:14 PM Hey guys! :mrgreen:It was great to finally meet you Motorico and Carlitos. Good to see you again too Ben. What did you think of the show?
I thought it was OK.....it could have been better. I wasn't impressed with the small amount of product lines out there. With the huge aftermarket parts available for motorcycles, the few that showed up were only the tip of the iceberg. I also think many of the manufacturer reps were already burned out by this Sunday. Many didn't seem very enthusiastic about being there. Poor guys...three days at a show can burn you out fast.
Other than that, the bikes were too cool! :thumbsup

I don't recall GIVI being at the last show and I am quite certain that SHAD wasn't there. I was happy to see both of them and TwistedThrottle there. I could do with a lot fewer leather vest peddlers. I did pick up a nice set of guantlets from one stand.
Anyone here an Amsoil rep? I am very slightly considering it to be able to get wholesale pricing but the difference wasn't as much as I thought it would be.

I might be able to get ahold of one but I haven't talked to him in quite a long time (from FordF150.net - hooked me up a few times). But I don't know any personally.

I was wondering about locally. If a member is a rep, I'd buy from them. I don't know that I'd use enough oil to get my, admittedly not much, $20 worth that being a "preferred customer/dealer" costs.

Funny? How's this for funny.... my pal at work bought the full Termi's for his 1098S, and just "upgraded" to the titanium Akrapovic... I cannot believe anyone would pay $3k+ for an exhaust. I tried to talk him out of it, but you can't talk sense to someone in love I guess.

Pyxlwyz 04-10-2010, 12:44 AM GREETINGS!
Hey Hey Hey! its Spring Time! Time for winter projects to finally get tested, and old crud to get shaken loose... One of my friends has had his Ducati 1098S getting pimped out for the past three months, and the "build" is finally complete. My other friend has had his Buell 1125 fry its stator so he won't be joining us :-( The good thing is, the 599 keeps on Rockin'!
SUNDAY, SUNDAY, SUNDAY!! (4/11)
My buddy "saint" (ducati) and I are going on the initial RIDE of the year, and it'd be awesome if we had some wingmen... I see that there may be a new (NEW!) bike or two from the DFW 599.com crew, so whaddya say?
I've laid out the proposed route... it starts from ~Mckinney (380 & 121) and takes a quick start up in Sherman. It turns off on the EXCELLENT FM 697 from Sherman to Whitewright, then heads on up to Bonham to try out FM 271 (our first view of this one), then runs back toward Blue Ridge, FM 545, and the dreamy sweepers on FM 2933.
GOOGLE MAPS FTW!
Its just a thumbnail of the route, things tend to evolve, so it could change...

carlitos_92 04-10-2010, 04:39 PM That looks like a pretty decent route. I'll not be able to do it this weekend, but we do need to get the new bikes out once Transient gets his Z broken in.
honda freak 04-10-2010, 10:44 PM Did Transient finally decide to get the Z? Cool! :)
honda freak 04-12-2010, 09:48 PM OK, so I was talked into going on a short ride yesterday. My friend and I rode 455 to Weston and back. Beautiful day!!!
We did get stopped by a Collin County Sheriff Deputy doing 67 in a 55. Oops!!! I was following the leader. hehehe.... :wtf
Anyways, the officer caught us going East bound while he was going West. We pulled over immediately when he turned on his lights. He made a three point turn and noticed that we didn't try running. We just took off our gear and turned off the bikes. It's amazing how being courteous to an officer can get you nice Karma. The officer was kind enough to let us go with a verbal warning. Second time he catches us, it's a ticket. So.....I'm still ticket free for over 12 years now! :clap
What sucked about the whole thing was the officer didn't even try to stop the guy right behind us on his HUGE Harley. The guy was trying to keep up with us and because we weren't in any hurry, he was right on my tail. As the officer pulled my friend over, I pulled over too, but the guy behind me just slowed down and rode around everyone. Maybe I should get a Harley if they are immune to traffic stops. :crazy WTF?!
motorico 04-13-2010, 08:36 AM My "no better option" ride is 455. I usually do the a loop between Celina and 75, a few times even. I noticed my last ride there was a LEO off the road on one of the turns. I checked, made sure I was going 55. I kept it at 55 until the stop sign in Weston.
I think the LEO are out new because the riders are out. Tight budgets could mean an increase in the collection of violation induced revenue.
I just take those times to practice on my form and technique. Just like I do when I get caught behind the occassional slow driver.

There is one corner on 455, east of Weston, where I obey the speed limit. It is where they road crews store the building material so it often has gravel strewn about the road.
I think we went on that New Hope/Blue Ridge ride last year.
I want to try the Talimena Parkway. Eastern OK has some beautiful country and roads. The secondary roads are surprisingly smooth. I think it is the lack of traffic.
Pyxlwyz 05-14-2010, 02:21 PM so... AMS is having a Multistrada "party" tonight from 5-7. I cant make it, but I think I'm going to swing by there tomorrow around lunchtime to check it out.

honda freak 05-20-2010, 12:49 PM Anyone going to the Cresson track day on Monday the 24th? I got a greenlight from the wife to go. Transient 05-20-2010, 04:31 PM A buddy at work recently rediscovered the joys of FM455 and wants to do a ride up that way on Sunday. Somethin' worth considering.
motorico 05-20-2010, 07:17 PM 455 works for me. I would like to try some of the roads that Pixyl rides out east and north.
Transient 05-20-2010, 11:04 PM Only NE route I've been on goes to Wolfe City. Lots of blind curves. Neat, but stressful if you're new to it. :P

Transient 05-22-2010, 03:12 PM I can do a 9 - 1 or late afternoon ride. Where is a matter of what everyone is confy with. I don't have a gps or great knowledge of the northern area, just that 455 is pretty good. :P
carlitos_92 05-22-2010, 03:58 PM I can do a 9 - 1 or late afternoon ride.
Concur. 8 - 12 would be even better. It's getting hot out there. :P

I did The Dragon three weeks ago. I'm pretty much up for whatever NTX has got to offer.

I have to say 697 was pretty good. It even fits in the "one tank" rule for Carlitos.
Transient 05-22-2010, 07:21 PM Ah, the boy has grown into a bad ass. Great.
I can do 8, doesn't bug me. Just need to determine a route as I simply don't know any that I'd be comfortable leading.
carlitos_92 05-22-2010, 07:58 PM No, I am no badass, but I can rev past 6,000 rpm, and that counts for something. :P
The only thing I am comfortable leading is a trip down 121 into Fort Worth. You guys would need me to navigate all that crazy construction.
Ricky, was that map set to Spanish, or has somebody been jacking with my gmail? I have no objections. Back to "when/where."
motorico 05-22-2010, 08:14 PM Oh yeah, the map was set to Spanish. I didn't even think about that.
If we want that route I can "lead" with the warning that the last time I went so slow I actually caused a member to abandon the board.
If we are going my route, I'd say the 7-11 off of Cotton Gin (or Mill)/Main St in Frisco. Basically Main St Frisco. The big problem there right now, Jimmy Buffet concert tonight.
If we have any others? Pixyl lead me out east on some roads.
Transient 05-22-2010, 08:58 PM I'm fine with a relaxed pace. Hey, if I'm not leading, I can shut up. :P
An alternative is 2-3 guys from TXSBR are going to 697. We'd have to get out to McKinney/Lucas by 9, but it's an option.

Barry among those? Are these guys thrashers or cruisers, or just normal? :P
Transient 05-22-2010, 09:27 PM Barry isn't. One of the two guys rides VERY slow.
Transient 05-22-2010, 09:43 PM I finally set this thread to automatically notify me of updates so I actually see responses.
Transient 05-22-2010, 10:02 PM Going to bed. I'll check in tomorrow morning - I am riding one way or another. :P
motorico 05-22-2010, 10:15 PM Where in McKinney?
motorico 05-23-2010, 06:10 AM Ok, what's the plan?
Transient 05-23-2010, 06:28 AM http://maps.google.com/maps?q=lucas,+texas&ll=33.084104,-96.576884&spn=0.007308,0.008093&t=k&hl=en
T-intersection, Lucas gas station. The white tiny building in the middle of the intersection is the Gas Station.
Everyone comfy with that?

Do they sell gas? I can't tell if it's operational.
T, the usual place? What time?
motorico 05-23-2010, 06:34 AM That works for me. I will have to stop and get gas as I head out.
Transient 05-23-2010, 06:35 AM They do sell gas and there are other stations on route. If you want to meet up at costco gas at 8 we can do that.
motorico 05-23-2010, 06:42 AM Ok, Lucas at 8:something.
Transient 05-23-2010, 06:42 AM Yep. That's what I'm doing. Gotta wash up and fill up first. Hope you guys come, as I expect it to be as laid back as any group ride gets.
Transient 05-23-2010, 06:47 AM They're leaving from Lucas at 9, takes me about 40 to ger there from Lewisville. See ya there!
carlitos_92 05-23-2010, 12:52 PM That was fun. Thanks for getting us hooked in with those guys and the route this morning, T.
And good to finally see your bike, Ricky. It looks like fun. But the image of those turn signals flapping isn't going away any time soon... :P
Most of those roads were pretty good. All the turnoffs and such scare me a tad, but other than that, the wandering animals, and a few wonky places in the asphalt, it's a decent route. After the swarm, it's a weird but not entirely unpleasant feeling to have 1/4-1/2 mile warning before a tight turn.
Transient 05-23-2010, 03:12 PM Glad you had a good time. The TXSBR group is generally excellent - I've only had one or two so-so rides, and that's largely a mistake of my own judgement/pride/incompetence than anything else.
The VFR certainly sounds good.
motorico 05-24-2010, 06:13 AM I enjoyed the ride. Good to see you both again.
I hope I didn't slow you down too much on the way home.
I just like to think of the way my bike shakes at idle as it being excited and wanting to go, kind of like a puppy on a leash.
Transient 05-24-2010, 06:20 AM Didn't slow me down at all! I split off on Preston since it's normally a good bit faster to my place and I had an appointment at 1:30. Got stuck in some traffic but still made it in time.
Thanks for leading the way back. If my ability to navigate TO the ride is any indication, I should never lead anything.
Super Sneaky Steve 05-24-2010, 06:25 AM Yeeeeeeeee Hawwwwwwww! Howdy partners! Boy that buckethead sure can play the banjo! You guys going to ride to the Texas Hodown?

(Sorry, my Photoshop is broke at the moment...)
Transient 05-24-2010, 09:10 AM Buddy at work asked if I rode yesterday. Told him yes and that, after close to five hours, I was freakin' hot. "I don't wear a jacket. The head's the only thing that needs protecting. Everything else is just road rash." Bright, bright fella, that one.
That said, I should not have worn jeans underneath the Aerostich. While it's not noticeably restrictive when I'm commuting, it gets real snug when throwing my body around the bike. Compounding that problem was placing my phone in a hip pocket. Live and learn.
820 miles on the clock by the time I got home. Movin' on up.

Have you ridden in shorts under that suit before? (I assume you're not talking about going "commando")
The reason I ask is that every time I wear my pants over shorts, I am amazed by how much movement and chafing there really is between my skin and the overpants... and they have a liner. They just seem to move around more than jeans would, and then the armor causes pressure points that would be less severe through another layer of denim.
You really can't win, no matter how you wear them.
Transient 05-24-2010, 09:44 AM Have you ridden in shorts under that suit before? (I assume you're not talking about going "commando")
Haven't tried, but I expect you're right. The other solutions for me, depending on circumstances, will probably be armored jeans or my leathers.
Pyxlwyz 05-24-2010, 01:36 PM LOL! Its funny how I keep missing you guys! I should have checked here before the weekend was over. Me and my friend wound up riding with the DFWSportbike crowd on Sat to Indian Bridge (FM697). I would have liked to hook up with you guys on Sunday... especially since the route started in my back yard, heh.
I believe my two buddies and I are going to Talihina on Saturday morning for an all day ride if anyone's interested. It's in the early planning stage but the route would be something like this:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=386+Parkvillage+Ave,+McKinney,+TX+75069&daddr=OK-1+E%2FOK-1+Scenic+E+to:AR-88+E%2FSkyline+Dr+to:34.693074,-94.424744+to:US-259+S+to:US-75+S&hl=en&geocode=Fbam-QEdSFk9-imb5wFOPRFMhjHcz8mMmvN5zw%3BFeR_EgId4JpY-g%3BFSUpEQIdCIBg-g%3B%3BFfIpDwId4B9b-g%3BFd6O-gEdrGc9-g&mra=dpe&mrcr=0&mrsp=3&sz=11&via=1,2,3,4&sll=34.642812,-94.380798&sspn=0.260423,0.672913&ie=UTF8&ll=34.075412,-95.180054&spn=2.097427,5.383301&t=p&z=8

Pyxlwyz 05-26-2010, 10:17 AM Talihina trip is on! Meetup @ 8:30am on Saturday... kickstands up at 9am!
Google Maps says its a ~9.5hr round trip, but I assume we'll be stopping several times, so plan on riding all day (wheeee!).
We're going to meet at the McDonalds on 75 & McDermott in Allen (southbound service road below McDermott, near Maxim Honda/Harley of Allen)
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&q=mcdonalds&sll=33.099919,-96.672392&sspn=0.016573,0.042057&ie=UTF8&split=1&rq=1&ev=p&radius=1.46&hq=mcdonalds&hnear=&ll=33.103226,-96.672864&spn=0.016573,0.042057&z=15&iwloc=A
I posted the route above, but in a nutshell, plan on super-slab until we get to Atoka, OK (~2hrs), then the fun starts.
FYI, we run a fairly sensible pace, no stunting or squid mayhem... I value my limbs as much as yours.
Pyxlwyz 05-28-2010, 12:23 PM Whoo hoo.... tomorrow morning!
Pyxlwyz 05-30-2010, 06:58 PM Whew! What a ride yesterday... It was very exciting & memorable. I was exhausted when I got home. That was the first ~500mi. ride I've ever been on -12 hours!
Thanks for joining up with us Motorico, I hope we can ride again sometime.
I made a Google Map with notes:

I have to say, my favorite parts were waiting for Rico to get his hamburger at Pam's Diner :); The Talimena Parkway (duh); 259 South going down into the valley, then back up again; 144 through the hills & trees. Also, snakes on the road!?! ehhhh ehhh!

honda freak 06-01-2010, 10:32 PM Hey guys! Long time, no chat....
Lookie what I did? Spent my day at Cresson doing a track day on the 24th. I had fun. Most aggressive I've ever ridden the bike....and that really isn't aggressive at all. LOL..... I'm such a whimp on that thing. I'll eventually get brave and ride faster next time. :)

Pyxlwyz 06-02-2010, 01:11 PM I've never been to Cresson, it looks a lot flatter than Eagle's Canyon - which is important to me because I'm strictly a spectator, heh.
Pic #6 is worthy of wallpaper :) That exhaust is sweet.
speaking of pics.... here are a few from the Talihina trip on Saturday:
honda freak 06-02-2010, 01:42 PM Yes, Cresson is much flatter than ECR. I'm totally fearful of crashing at ECR. That would really hurt. This was my first time to Cresson and I have to say it's definately my favourite. :)
Thanks! I got that on sale back in March for 20% off. They screwed up and didn't send it for a month, so they shipped it for free too. :)

honda freak 06-14-2010, 02:24 PM Well, just got back last Friday from a three day ride up in Arkansas. We stayed in Clarksville and rode the motorcycles on Wednesday and Thursday. It was my first time to go on a "away" ride and WOW!!! what a great time we had. Unfortunately, we weren't able to get many pics of the scenery. I was just concentrating on all the curvy roads and hoping I didn't ride beyond my skills. It would have been a loooong way down if I misjudged the curve.

GB & Tollway to Southlake and back everyday (6days)

Any DFW get togethers going on soon?

I ride 121 Coppell to Fort Worth and back weekdays, but pretty early (6:00-ish) and late (6:00-ish).
Transient is right up the road from me in Lewisville.
Transient 08-08-2010, 09:52 AM And I take 121 from Lewisville to Plano a few time a week at around 8:00-9:00. I haven't seen any other Black Zs around, let alone with a big yellow helmet, so. :P
There are several riding groups in the area, depending on your preferences. Off the top of my head:
Young, stunting okay, loose - http://www.dfwsportbikes.org
Mature, no stunting, organized - http://www.txsbr.com
Personally, I prefer to ride with the older guys.

It's a Black/DarkBlue helmet
If anybody can take lunch in Southlake or Grapevine Im usually flexible.
Im the Store Manager at Starpower Home Theater Southlake TX in front of Central Market.
honda freak 08-22-2010, 01:36 PM Hey guys! Sorry I haven't been posting in a looooooooooong time. I've been busy with family and work. Just landed a job at Southwest Airlines two months ago and the training was kind of intense. It was a midlife career change and I took a HUGE pay cut for the opportunity to get in with a great company. It isn't the job I want, but once in the door, I can move around to where I want to go. The only thing that makes the pay tolerable is my savings and rental income. I promissed them 18 months in this position, then it's game on!!! :)
Anyways, it's been too freaking hot to ride these past few weeks. I rode the bike once last month and decided it just wasn't worth the torture sitting in traffic for an hour with all that gear on. So, the bike has been sitting in the garage growing cobwebs (literally) these past 2 1/2 months.
Hope all is going well for everyone. :thumbsup
Oneshot1001 09-01-2010, 09:14 PM If you've had a chance to roll through Grapevine 121/114 section lately you'll appreciate I had those Northgate Constructors throw a few "S's" in there.
Feel free to thank me as you see fit. :disco:
I however take no responsibility for any ill will you have towards the massive traffic problems occurring.

Ha. Actually, I'm amazed that they have screwed up that road that much and didn't really cause an appreciable increase in traffic issues - though I think that is mostly because it was so shitty before, it couldn't have gotten worse.
I usually take "the chicanes" southbound in the pre-dawn hours. Very fun, but only because I'm too sleepy to realize that the cagers can't see me!
I have four days off starting Friday, and my new Pilot Power on the front is scrubbed in. Somebody wanna pick a day and ride somewhere?

Transient 09-04-2010, 08:49 AM This afternoon or Monday work best for me.
Oneshot1001 09-04-2010, 10:11 AM Work work work. Such is retail and holidays. Actually looks like I'll get Monday off.
On a side note: anybody know of a decent job for a college grad, former Circuit City GM, electronics pro, with graphic talents and years of sales experience?.... M-F preferred... Anywhere in DFW
carlitos_92 09-04-2010, 10:24 AM How about Monday then? I can probably get out from 10-4 or thereabouts.

carlitos_92 09-04-2010, 01:41 PM What is that, about 200 miles? Pretty heavy-duty. I'd probably prefer to do just the "top half" of that to keep the time down a little, but if the consensus wants to do the whole thing, I'm probably in.
Oneshot1001 09-04-2010, 04:24 PM that route was just under 200. I'll be starting near GB & Tollway. riding up north of Lake Lewisville is nice too for backroads.
I guess I'll do the Glen Rose - Granbury thing another time....
We could meet near Grapevine Mills if theres some FW cowboys coming  maybe they'll wear some chaps:lol2:

carlitos_92 09-06-2010, 01:00 AM If we can keep Mr. Pyxl from dragging us on a 9-hour ride like he usually does, I'm cool! The more the merrier.
I thought Grapevine Mills was a good meetup but I can go east or north if that's more "on the way."
Pyxlwyz 09-06-2010, 07:25 AM How about this route? Basically its 455 all the way from 75 to 35, then up through St Jo to Indian Bridge, then back through Muenster. Its got a good midpoint @ the ~2hr mark in Sanger & 35 where you can split off if you like.

carlitos_92 09-06-2010, 12:25 PM Nick et al, it was good to meet you guys, and (except for the suicidal bridge pass) that was a great ride. :thumbsup
Thanks for waiting up for me this morning; let's do it again soon.
Here's my two pics just to prove there were multiple 599s at the same place at the same time. Uh, I think they are in there *somewhere* behind that bad-ass red bike.

It had Akras and an open clutch cover on it, among other things. It was hard not to gravitate to it whether it was running, or not.
FWIW, homeboy had shredded those street tires to the edges. :bow
Oneshot1001 09-06-2010, 02:58 PM Very fun. Enjoyed meeting and chasing you guys. and yes the 1098...
between the VFR, 1098, and 599 upgraded pipe there was a five pipe symphony playing through the countryside in front of me. :headbang
Hopefully another opportunity presents itself soon.
Pyxlwyz 09-06-2010, 04:32 PM Good riding with you guys today :) I just rolled in about 30 min ago - all in all about 250miles run today. Saint and I kept following 455 all the way to Forrestburg, then hit fm677 to Indian Bridge, then headed back through Muenster. After that we were kinda wore out so we did highways all the way back.
I only snapped a few pics:
1. Gassing up @9am I park next to a 1970 DeTomasso Mangusta - WILD!
2. Just north of Muenster is a giant windmill farm - the windmills were giant!
3. so were the spiders munching on locusts!
Transient 09-07-2010, 06:24 AM Looks like a great ride. :thumbsup
JWAJack 09-08-2010, 02:42 PM Hey DFW Guys -- just got a newsletter from the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation and it looks like you guys have a "Ride for Kids" event coming in a month on October 3. Check it out http://www.pbtfus.org/rideforkids/calendar/2010/dallasfortworth.html and think about riding.
Transient 09-08-2010, 02:59 PM Damn. Out of town that day. :(

Shameless plug for a friend of mine: http://fcg-bbq.blogspot.com/
He takes this whole meat thing rather seriously. I've no idea how he fits this in with his day job...
Pyxlwyz 09-24-2010, 09:12 PM My buddies from work are going to the Game Developer's Conference in Austin in two weeks, and we're planning on two-wheeling it there. We'll be there for a few days, so we thought we'd sample the local twisties in the area. :ride:
Anyone here have any experience/suggestions with the roads around Austin? It sure seems like there are some cool places to ride around there.
I'm going to make a special trip to see if I can see anything at the future Formula One track location :)
Oh, also... we're staying at the Hilton downtown, so, any food/drink/entertainment around there you can suggest would be cool too
Oneshot1001 10-05-2010, 09:55 AM Well, the cooler air is really making the bike happy. Went right past my exit last night... on purpose. :ride
Also learned what redline felt like in a certain gear or two.
