Well it happened my first (hopefully last) wreck on my 599. I was taking a right turn on a green light at about 20 or 25 mph and my front tire went out from under me on some pea gravel. The bike and I went down hard on the right side. I didn't fair very well. 5 broken ribs and a snapped scapula. Might right arm is not working very well. I spent the night in the hospital on my birthday while they monitored my punctured right lung to make sure it didn't collapse. I should be in considerable pain for about the next 6 weeks or so. I should be able to ride again in about a month.
Now the good news. T Rex frame sliders rock. They were one of the first mods I did to my 599. The crash ground about and inch off of the right frame slider. Very minimal damage to the bike. My right side mirror is toast (I wanted to replace them anyways). A scuff on my clutch lever and bar end. Minimal slide damage on the stock muffler cover. Tank is good, crankcase has no damage and the radiator was protected. It did take out my Givi windshield (bummer). The sliders also kept the bike from coming down on my foot.
I was a little hard on myself about the wreck at first until I went back to see were I went down. The gravel on the road is the same color as the road and there is no way I could have seen it in even if it had been broad day light.
A new set of T Rex sliders are on the way. If you dont have sliders on your bike get some right away. The T Rex ones are only about $25 with shipping and everything if you order direct. Things could have been much worse. I will be back to ride another day.

Dude, that sucks. Glad to hear you are in good spirits and that the bike is (mostly) okay.

I am rocking a couple of cracked ribs, so I can't even imagine what 5 broken ones must be like. You won't be in any pain as long as you don't move, right? :lol2:

Heal up fast and get back on that horse, my man.

Damn, dude. Sucks that a simple lowside turned out to hurt so badly. Good that the bike's ok, but damn. Heal well and good luck hopping back on.

It seems that low-speed lowsides might be easier on the bike than zero-speed drops... I had no real damage to the bike in my lowside as well.

I'm making use of my down time. I have sent my seat off to Spencer at agreatdaytoride.com to be upgraded. I found a little more damage to the bike also the wreck bent my rear brake lever back at a 90 degree angle. I hoping I'll be able to straighten it out with a pair of vice grips. If not that will be another $45. If I can get it straight my cost to be back riding is at about $205, not counting medical bills.:tomato

Wow, good testimonial, but I wish you had mounted an extra pair of sliders on yourself!

Heal up soon.

Don't sneeze!

Wow, sorry to hear about the vicious hidden pea gravel...little f*ckers... Well, at least the monetary gouge doesn't sound too bad. Hope you got some good pain killers/muscle relaxants!

So, T-Rex sliders...are they some rubbery compound? Or some form of metal? Looks like the PO of my bike put on something metallic, beefy. But I've seen quite a few posts that seem to say that might not be so good (versus some other plasticy/rubbery compound). Nice stand-off though. Good to hear that your foot was spared. Scapula sounds hurtful too.:-(

Heal up!

I missed this thread earlier. Sorry to hear that you went down so hard, but glad to hear you will be on the mend and back on two soon. If you don't mind my asking, how did you land that you broke that many ribs? Did you hit something? A curb? part of the bike? If you don't feel like getting into the mechanics of the spill I COMPLETELY Understand, so now worries. I was just curious that's all.

599ED - Hope you are well on the way to full recovery. Just wanted to let you know after reading your post I promptly placed a T Rex sliders order. Thanks for the advice.

Thanks to all for the wishes of wellness. I'm almost 3 months out of the injuries and wish the ribs would quit hurting. I am way better than I was a month ago though. I was back up on the bike 2 weeks after the wreck when a deer decided to take my truck out going down the highway. I had to use my left arm to get my right arm up to the throttle so I could get to work.
The good news ... truck is fixed , the bike got fixed quick and my body is almost back to normal ( I think my right should sits about an inch lower now.. oh well)
Keep your knees in the breeze and the rubber side down:ride
