View Full Version : How to add back pressure to this?

I like this style of exhuast on the 919, probably is no back pressure makes for some shitty low end. Anyone have any ideas on how to add some back pressure, but still retain this general idea and not add a giant pipe on the back.

Ive seen some of the short Stubby Exhaust but im not sure if theyll work, or which one is going to look clean. I know a good exhuast guy who could probably fit it all together for me and weld it up if i need a custom job.

wouldn't that make the bike almost unbearable to ride for being to loud? I like to hear my bike but damn...

1. Fuel injected motors are not directly affected by the exhaust system, so theoretically no noticeable loss of low end force. Back pressure is a carb thing. (back pressure waves are used to pull fuel mix through the system in short)

2. The amount of air getting into the engine does affect the power output on a EFI engine. More air needs more fuel, but if the system cannot correct a change in the airflow (K&N air filter+air box mod for example), the proper air/fuel ratio will not be provided. Since the CU getting info from the airflow sensor in the 919 is non programmable (and geared towards passing EPA standards) the fuel map can be overridden/optimized to use a custom map resulting is optimum power delivery via a remote unit such as Power-commander.

you can try the super trapp exahust ends on that and it'll be minimal and have back pressure....you'll need to do some fab work to make it fit

The guy I got my current scooter from has a BMW with basically just the head going into a super trapp end with no muffler and it didn't sound too bad

use the dirt bike version of the super trap for low cost and small package

I have this on the 599 and left the cat in also the silencer that comes with it. It was unbearable at first and still is annoying as hell. I don't recommend this one unless you can get a good exhaust guy to outfit a cat on it at least. I have it and love the reactions I get and I get noticed which is good for safety.

My bike is carburated and I did not really feel much loss of power to low end. Got rid of about 20 pounds though since I got rid of the old battle ax. Does backfire though, and if you wear earphones or foamies you should be good because even with headphones this exhaust overpowers anything you put in your ears.

LOVE IT and Hate it just a tiny bit.

i found a guy over at wristtwisters that did exactly what im looking for.. i think im going to copy his set up. He used a Sato Exhuast and then bolted it to the back foot pegs.. it looks good. But i cant tell what he did.. waiting for a response from him.

It was in a thread where everyone was discussing taking the headers from a cbr 900rr, and bolting them on along with the new exhuast.. and he chimed in the middle with a pic of his exhuast.. but i cant even tell if he has the stock 919 header, of if he swapped it.

I have the 900RR setup chopped right behind the footpeg with a PC3 and custom map runs great no low end issues and loud as hell. It is tolerable while cruising but at WOT its deafening. But oh so much fun. http://www.honda599.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7245

Use the SuperTrapp Disc only muffler. You change backpressure (and muffler noise volume) by adding/removing discs. Pretty handy when you have a carbed bike and can add or remove discs to match the fueling.

I'd like to go the other way around.

I want to get a Airwolf Silent Mode thing going. I figure that the closest I'll get is an inline 4 sounding VFR thing.

Now, I need a bike to attach an exhaust to.

On to those brakes now... right?

Nice bike. Interesting paint scheme for a Brit?

The brakes are not standard! The calipers have bigger pistons and of course the obligatory braided lines with a differant master cylinder:mrgreen:

Ah, nice. I should have at least noticed the different reservoir.
