Default Did you cross-shop your 919 with any other bikes?

I am just wondering if there are any other bikes that you guys considered buying instead of your 919. I have had 7 other bikes before, ranging from standards to sport bikes to mucle standards.

Here are some of the others I considered, with basic reasons why I didn't buy them:
  • Ducati Monster 800 (expensive, not a big fan of V-twins)
  • Suzuki SV650 (didn't like the V-twin, too slow)
  • Kawasaki Z750S (worried about kawi reliability)
  • Yamaha FZ1 First-Gen (doesn't have FI, and I hate the look of the 2nd Gen)
  • Kawasaki ZRX1200R (no FI)
The 919 just has everything I want. All of my best bikes have been Hondas, and it is a company I believe in. So it is convenient that Honda makes the best looking naked standard in the business, with light weight and fuel injection to boot. I love this bike!

I've always liked the naked bike look. Fi wasn't a big deal for me. I knew just a few things that I wanted, Naked, and Honda. I have a cb750 nighthawk for several years, great machine, and when the opertunity came up to get a 919, I jumped on it. When I totalled the first one. I thought to myself, If I can't get another one, I'll move to a FZ1. I knew I wanted more power than the sv650, and I'm not a big Kawasaki or Ducati fan, so Honda or yamaha was he way to go for me. Lucky for me, I found another 919.

On a side note, you probably wont get much repsonce here (the 919 section). I'm pretty sure that you, me, SSSteve, and Leatherwings are about the only 919 riders that post on a regular basis.

Oh well I guess that makes us the coolest people on this board, then I will do my best to honor the position of 919 ownership!

I was thinking of the SV650 before I decided on the 599.

This is slightly tangential to your original post, but I figure it's close enough.

after riding v-twin cruisers (two Hondas) for a number of years, i wanted to get a sport(y)bike. the SV650, F4i, 599, and 919 were basically my top 4.

I eventually narrowed it down to the 599 and 919. I decided on the 919 because they were more readily available, and could be found at essentially the same price as a 599.

I did end up getting an SV later on tho, in addition to the 919. I like having the contrasting nakeds. The 919 has alot more high-end/speed power and looks uber badass, but it's pretty heavy when you compare it to the super lightweight SV. Yeah, the SV is slower in a straight line for sure, but it turns pretty damn quickly and is much funner for tight twisties. But for the open road, the 919's torque and hp are much more entertaining.

a complaint i have about the 919 tho is the suspension. not necessarily on a performance level, but on a comfort level. for a bike so geared towards urban riding, the suspension could stand to be much less harsh. I weigh 165 lbs, so i dunno, maybe the bike is just not setup for someone of my weight. plus, i have the older, virtually non-adjustable 919

I don't have that problem, but I have the new adjustable suspension. I think the suspension was a big complaint for the early 919s, so honda put more adjustment on them. Why they didn't on the 599, I'll never know...

that's how i feel about the 599's lack of fuel-injection

I looked real hard at the Super Hawk. Glad I went with the 919.

although a 919 rear sprocket on a superhawk is a ton of fun! I did the same, I almost got a 2005 superhawk before I got the 919. I'm happier with the 919...
