Default NYC first accident, broken ankle

On a 2 lane, 2-way street a driver in the other lane made an illegal u-turn right in front of me (crossed over double yellow lines). their side had a lot of traffic, so I did not see them prepare their maneuver. My lane was clear, so I was cruising normal speeds. Anyway, this car pops up in front of me and I swerve hard to the right. Not sure how much breaking I did but I immediately low sided and now I have road rash and a broken ankle. Not sure how I avoided contact with the other car but that would have likely resulted in more severe injuries and more damage to the bike. Sigh. Stay safe everyone.

Glad to hear that it wasn’t worse.

Will you be rebuilding or replacing your bike?

Thanks Joe. There is surprising minor damage, rear brake peg and frame slider took most of the damage... so I think some minor parts replacement.

Man, I didn't realize NY had good enough weather to be riding.
Im glad to hear you managed to avoid them, and that your ok other then the rash and ankle. It sound very similar to a wipe out I had a couple of years back, they turned left across my lane and I put it down, bike ended up under their front bumper but not touching. Hurt my ankle but nothing broke.
Stay safe out there.

The temps were freezing, but was dry and sunny out. Those are good enough conditions for me

Happy New Year everyone!
