Default Another FNG here with an '06.

Howdy all, just thought I would introduce myself. Just got a project 599. I just picked one up with some scrapes and scratches on both sides (one a fairly decent speed low side). Lucky the PO had sliders on and this helped some. I'll be getting her sorted over the next few weeks.

Damage includes, but is not limited to, front wheel (needs to be replaced), headlight assembly (good lord - those aluminum brackets - made of solid unobtainium), exhaust cover, bars, mirrors, visor, footpegs, and rear fender. Probably more I am forgetting. Also, have a pretty decent oil drip coming from the stator cover. The good news is that she seems to run well. The aforementioned issue have kept me from a test ride in anything other than first gear, so that is all I know so far.

I am moving on from a long series of liter and liter+ bikes, which I dearly love, but as I get older I find I like lightness as much as power. This bike looks like a good daily commuter for me.

Any rec's on where to find a front wheel that isn't 50% of what I paid for the bike? Of those headlight brackets (mainly the right side)? Does anyone sell an OEM exhaust cover? Why do ants like air boxes so much?

Find the OEM exhaust cover and anything else your budget allows at servicehonda.com. Exhaust cover is $90, headlight brackets $50 each. Looks like your damaged mirrors might be from an Aprilia Tuono. They work better than the stock mirrors and you can find them new at reasonable prices on the web - about $50 for a pair. There's usually one or two 599's being parted out by someone on ebay and if you can afford to wait an undamaged front wheel should turn up pretty soon - the one currently for sale there appears sketchy and overpriced.

Thanks for the info... servicehonda.com looks like a good resource. I couldn't find those brackets anywhere. I have most of the bits on order (except the headlight stuff, going to see if I can straighten out this existing stuff). It's ALL bent, but nothing is broken yet. We will see how long that lasts when I try to bend it back.

Is honda part # 80105-MBZ-A11 the WHOLE rear fender?

At $24 seems easier than doing a fender eliminator kit to repair the broken blinker mount.

It's the whole fender - a lot of plastic for your money. I've never been a fan of fender eliminators so I approve the plan of replacing the fender. Service Honda has been great for the 20 or more years I've been dealing with them.

Check out the wheels on other Honda's from around the same time. I think ours came from an earlier fireblade, but maybe someone else can confirm, and also confirm what you need to make it fit. So keep the spacers when you junk the wheel.

Yeah, I have been thinking about this. There seems to be a distinct lack of 599 wheels for sale right now, or their owners/shops want... well, lets just say I'd like to try some of that crack they are smokin'...

Surely Honda didn't develop a wheel just for this application, but the Honda part number (44650-MBZ-C50) seems to be unique to the 599. Surely the cbr600 f3 or f4 wheel would fit no?

I have also thought of those straightening services, but it is a pretty big ding.

Over at hondahornet.co.uk there's a post from 370steve saying the following non-hornet items work with the hornet -

CBR600F3 front wheel
CBR900RR rear wheel (need to change the bearings/bearing spacer/dust seals for hornet items)
CBR600F3, CBR900RR sprocket carrier
nearly any CBR rear caliper

Here's the thread: http://www.hondahornet.org.uk/messag...p?f=62&t=25897

NISxMO still has a good front wheel, I think. I have and un-hacked undertail and oem exhaust that I think is in good shape (came with my bike but I never reinstalled it) I'd send it to you for barely more than shipping, or just the cover if that's all you need. Also rear turn signals if you need them.

Also, look into partzilla.com, and let me know of anything in the headlight/ visor area you don't plan on keeping. I'd probably be interested.
