Default Track Day

I took my bike to the track day event at the GingerMan Raceway in South Haven Michigan this past Monday.

The 599 is an incredibly capable bike. I couldn't believe how much fun I had. I went into the day thinking I might discover my mostly stock 599's weaknesses but what I discovered was a ridiculously fun rev monster that has way more to give than I am brave enough to try and take.

If you have never let the needle touch the red you don't truly know what your 599 is capable of.

I crashed at my last track day. Kinda destroyed my confidence in riding. That was years ago and still recovering. Honestly the best thing for me would be another track day. Gotta get the bike sorted out though - not running very well at the moment.

Sorry to hear about your crash. I hope you weren't hurt.

At the risk of sounding cliché, have you read "A Twist of the Wrist 2" by Keith Code? (Watching the video doesn't count).

If you haven't read it, or even if it's been a while since you have, it might help your confidence to read through it.

I was fine. It was low speed.

I have read it. Maybe I should pick it up again.

I crashed the 599 a few times, almost lost the VFR at least twice. Never badly hurt, no big deal, lessons learned. It sucks to mess up a pristine bike, but it's not a huge deal, they're just bikes. Think about what happened, try to figure what went wrong, and try not to do it again. Keep riding. Every time I crashed, I picked it up and rode it home, fixed it, and kept riding until I was confident again. It's too much fun for little mishaps to ruin it for me, even just commuting.
